Plus all you sandwiches are probably going to be toasties after a long drive. But hey that's probably not to bad.

I did a test with mine and found that after driving along, the temperature inside the hamper was no worse than the ambient temperature... however, once you stop, the heat comes up from the engine and you need to take it off pretty quickly if you want the contents to stay cool(ish)

I think if only two people are travelling there is enough space in the back. On the other hand they look cool so maybe you can put something small and light there.

Definitely! Actually quite a lot of space in the back with only two up front, and taking out the base and the backrest of the rear seat would make even more space.
