Technical Lowering springs...

Will be a set. I don't know anyone that sells individually. Very good price I have to say. £75 including VAT and delivery.

I would bet that they won't honour that price unless they have them in stock and are desperate to get rid, but that seems unlikely.

I was talking to Damon and maybe Lewey at Gaydon about strut braces and there was question as to whether they were worthwhile on a Panda as the transverse bulkhead at the back of the engine bay provides a lot of stiffness in the right place... Neverstop might still have his... PM him.

I've not tried one so I can't comment it but it's worth researching before parting with cash... They look great when the bonnet's up though... :D

You can ask Firstcar-Y10 for more info of living with a lowered car in terms of any unusual wear he might have.
weellll, pretty much everything is getting worn now but the springs were dropped about 80k miles ago and the shocks are actually off a Y10 turbo so don't know how that compares with standard but can't be bad(y)
watching with interest though as I plan replacing springs with the shocks over the summer.
can vouch for the difference in handling though, much less fuss changing direction and the ride didn't used to be bad either, although it's getting crashy now.
go for it, you'll love it and it does look subtly beefier.(y)

I have had the Jamex springs on my y10 with standard shocks and they worked great.

Time for an upgrade now with gas shocks and a few other bits:devil:

So you have Y10 hubs and different track rod ends to allow fitment of the Y10 shocks? I am half way through putting Y10 suspension on my Panda because of better suspension part availability, so this interests me at the moment. I have some Y10 track rod ends in my hand that I very much hope fit the Y10 shocks as the Panda ones are much too short!

Are the gas shocks Bilsteins by any chance? I bought a set recently with some OMP springs.

No, I looked at Bilsteins and also Leda but they were either not available at the time or vvvvvv expensive.

I got mine from http://www.carparts-direct.co.uk/ can't recall the make as I have binned the box. Will check.

What bump stops are you fitting? I was looking at Powerflex SAF005 universal ones but not sure if they will fit.

Cheers

Dave

They'll be Gabriel ones then? I was gonna use standard bump stops all round TBH. Do you think I'll be smacking them all the time if I do?

Pretty sure my Bilsteins were cheaper than the prices on the site above for the Gabriels. I bought them in November from MSW.

My Ledas are a one-off job according to them, who I called this morning. They were in the region of 1k when commisisoned around 5 years ago. I have fitted the fronts onto the Panda and am now thinking of using the Bilsteins and OMP springs as they are really silly hard.

I will investigate for you, I didn't fit this stuff so I keep coming up against stuff that's different to standard that I didn't even know about. That might explain why the numptys at Kwik fit couldn't work out how to get the brakes off a few years back so I had to take it home and do it myself:rolleyes:

Quickest way to tell if you have Y10 struts at the front is if the steering arm coming off the strut is welded near the base. If it is bolted on further up, it is Panda stuff.
OK so checked with the oracle and I'm talking b*****ks:eek:. rears are off a Y10 turbo, fronts are standard Panda but with some Y10 brake bits on and some collars welded on to keep the springs in check. Nice to know, at least I now know what I'm buying to replace this stuff over the summer.
Tyres first though. oh and the brakes............

Thoguht I'd dig this up again.

It was previously posted that you can use the standard shocks, bump stobs etc... but if i was looking to replace all the rubbery bits, bumb stops and bushes that may be used, where would the best palce be to get them from. not much luck online, FIAT, motor factors?

And has anyone got an exploded diagram from ePer of the front and rear suspension units please?

Fiat do still seem to do all the rubbers, at the back there's a rubber ring to locate the spring top and bottom and a rubber bush fitted inside the metal sleeve top and bottom of the shock. The rear shocks should come with these fitted (mine did anyway) I just reused the stuff at the rear, dead easy to dismantle anyway if the old stuff's shot when you take it apart.
Bought new rubbers at the front though as this is more of a pain to dismantle. there's an hourglass shaped 'pad' (fiats term) fitted in the top mount and an 'insulating ring' (fiats term) at the top of the spring. Ring was about 12 quid a side, pad was about 8. Think they're the only 2 directly involved in assembling the strut.
the bits I forgot: bump stops I assumed were OK at the front but the second one was wrecked. so now I have one nice powerflex bump stop and one old knackered one cos I couldn't be bothered going back and redoing the first:eek: First universal one from Halfords fitted fine with a bit of persuasion. Also didn't get the dust covers for the shock shafts. Still haven't investigated those yet.
Be warned, the pads on the front strut top mounts are an absolute nightmare to get out and change unless you have some sort of press.
Have fun(y)
Andrew.
