General Lowering springs

General Lowering springs

Springs are different to shocks, yes.

The engineer in me says that the coily thing at each corner of the car is a shock absorber, as it absorbs shock, and the hydraulic thing used with it is a damper.

However most folk refer to springs as springs, and the damper as a shock absorber.

Confused, you will be!

If you only want lowering for a posing pint of view and don't actually want to drive anywhere, then a set of lowering springs is fine. Fitting lowering springs with standard shocks/dampers will increase the wear on the shocks/dampers, and if they are more than three years old probably need replacing anyway.

So, short answer, get a full kit of springs/dampers/shocks.

Cheers

Or you can mix and match. New springs, decent aftermarket shocks (Monroe, Bilstein, etc). Essentially this is what Aaron did on Blue, and although it probably wouldn't cut it on a racetrack, for day to day use it beats everything else I've tried (so far) including those bloody Spax things.:bang:

You may find that bushes and top mounts which appeared fine before the new springs don't appear so fine afterwards. Such is life..........

Excellent guide to fitting in the, er, Guides.

I wouldn't go with G-Max tbh was very unimpresed by them especially after a trackday

I would personally go with Eibach springs and dampers to match only about a 35mm drop but they improve the handling massively..

Fingers- Disagree on the Spax's on a Cinq yes they are far to hard and very "crashy" but on a sei they feel totally different and handle pretty good even with dunlops on...

As mr Rallycinq said if it's looks your after GMax if you want to improve the handling spend some cash and think about tyre choice as well.. maybe even new bush's depending on mileage/age of car etc..

HTH :)

Yes. I hear that the Spax for Sei is good -- presumably the internal characteristics are different (might even be worth trying a set on a Cinq). Dunlops? Dunlops? Have you taken leave of your senses? Mind you, they'll be OK till it rains....................;)
