Technical Low MPG

Hi i have a 1.2 8v 02 punto and as i dont have mpg function on my trip computer i use and app called road trip it says i get 26.7 mpg and that sounds right as im forever filling it up i have a really high clutch and was wondering if this had anything to do with it and if not what else causes low mpg

Low MPG can be alsorts - but a high revving engine will little haste is going to be killer on the fuel
its like making a big fire expecting it to boil water nice and quickly
Except you've got a water sprinkler on the flames

Do the basics - check the tyre pressure when there COLD
Dont drive to your local supermarket and then check them, waste of time as they tyres will have warmed up!

Ziggy you really need to start reading the replies that come before,

the link I posted which is of the exact same topic from the exact same OP has your reply in it also

anyway JonnyBhoy - the clutch slipping is an issue that you really do need to look at or atleast let a decent mechanic look at

the clutch slipping is creating excessive friction as the middle plate (friction plate) has worn too thin

The Rivets that hold the plate together are probably now starting to scrape across your flywheel - which will damage it in the long run

Based on it doing 80k on original clutch - its ready

While the Gearbox is out - the input shaft needs to be checked for play

If the clutch was in Okay condition - then i suspect the next common issue is the input bearing has failed - making the seal leak
Spraying Gearbox oil all over the clutch - making it slip

The gearbox will need to be repaired - because if you dont - the new clutch will be fowled again by the leak - and you'll be back at square one
needing a box repair still if you havent now destroyed it - and a new clutch!

Yes for a good reason - i do an awful lot of short runs
And if i do get to drive a little further - its only just got warm
