Hi! The fuel pump on my brava 1.6 has always been noticeable. I am not sure if the buzz has gotten slightly louder this year or is it just me getting more sensitive, probably the latter. But in any case it is annoying. When engine is running, I hear that continuous buzz even inside the car with all the doors and windows closed.

So what can I do? Is it recommended to spray the pump with WD40 or something? Do I just remove the lid, leave the pump as it is and spray all over it or do I take it out first, maybe try to disassemble it?

A new pump is quite costly and I have doubts about getting a used one as it may also be just as loud.

Thanks!

Your fuel pump is inside the fuel tank, common on most vehicles these days. It is lubricated by the fuel it is pumping, so any WD40 will wash away instantly and do no good whatsoever.

You could check the fuel tank mountings, make sure they are secure and not allowing the tank to move so amplifying the resonance. After that, you have to decide whether to live with it or replace it. It appears to be over £300, so that may help the decision. Turn the radio up a bit. As long as the pump is still working, live with it. Increase in noise could be an indication of dying soon.

£135 from CarParts4less. May be available cheaper. Good luck.

It seems to be mounted ok.

I will try to put some cloth or some other insulation all around the pump case in the hole beneath the round plastic cover. Hopefully that will reduce the noise. Or is this a bad idea? I think heat dissipation should not be an issue here. Not sure though.

Just put old floormat in the boot, over the exsisting insulation,
