Is it supposed to be loose when pushed fully down?

I'm guessing it's not as oil is coming out.

And

Why is the search so utterly useless for this forum?

Thanks.

start with the basics and get a new/scrappie cap should that be problem

why is it coming out of top?

if oil is coming out of top you may have overfilled it for a start

what are you searching for? if you are searching for 'back seat sex in my cinq' i can tell you there isnt many threads because ive looked ;):D

it depends on the criteria you search for. If you are too precise then you will never find anything.

'oil cap cinq' would surely have brought some results up

Yep, shouldn't be flappy. On the other hand, I'd not expect a lot of oil to be exiting that way unless something else was amiss.

The problem with all search engines is that you don't find what you want unless you know what you're looking for: this one is no worse than most. Do use the advanced search.

A little play is normal (i.e. you might be able to wiggle the filler slightly side to side) but the plug part of the filler cap should be tight. They're not that expensive to replace anyway.

As my car is a 1998 with 52k miles, I'd guess all the scrappy ones would be as bad or worse.

All oil caps on all previous cars were a screw on tight seal.

This wiggles a lot from side to side. Oil mist or splashes always would leave the filler neck if the cap is off and the engine running on previous cars. One of them would not idle with the cap off. Maybe there was too much oil mist or fumes entering the inlet manifold and messing with idle combustion. Or by means unknown related to lack of crankcase vacuum. Dunno.

I tried various combinations of loose oil filler cap and used " ". It just found everything with oil or filler, etc, or found a list with filter. Advanced search was equally un-advanced.

My question should have been:

Does a loose oil filler cap make idle lumpy and rough?

Car has the Tricker 40mm, GSR, full Janspeed, Mckcrich. Original Lambda. It's rough from cold though, does not get worse or better after 5 minutes or any time.

So you can rule out the lambda sensor. First I would check the MAP sensor vacuum pipe is good/leak free and is a good fit on the MAP sensor. The crank sensor could also be at fault. Check the gap between the crank sensor and the crank sprocket with a feeler gauge. Does it sound like it's running on two cylinders?

Personally I would change the oil filler cap anyway regardless of if it's causing the problem or not - it shouldn't be a loose fit.

Thanks.

It's not on two cylinders.

I believe it has Castrol Magnatec. IIRC that's a 10W40.

It also doesn't pull worth bothering with above 6000prm.

The four into 1 manifold is a bit damaged on the two underneath pipes. One is has a flat hit into it which is about a 40% occlusion and the other has a concave hit into it which is maybe 60% or more. That can't be helping at all. Shame I didn't notice that before parting with the cash to buy the car.
