General Looking to get T-jet

General Looking to get T-jet

Depending on the garage, they might have a set of ramps they could get it up on. But best to take your own jack, they probably wouldn't be happy if you were to take the undertray off, but if you shine a torch in the gap between the undertray and the bumper you should be able to see the gearbox.

Cheers, I'll definitely have a look at that then, last question then I'm done, I mentioned one of the t-jets I was looking at had blue fiat badges but all the other t-jets I've seen have red fiat badges I cant clearly see the punto badge at the back so not sure if it's got the red circle or not.
Here is the car I'm looking at. What's up with that does that mean lower spec or what. Madness!

Fiat redesigned their badge in early 2008 to a new revamped version of their original emblem. This was done just before the 500 came out, hence why not 500's have blue ones. All the cars after late 2007 then have red emblems. No spec difference. Still a sporting. The only difference you will find with sporting specs is between S1 & from 2009 S2's. S2's new seat design, cruise control dark lights, optional 2 tone alloys & no more Caribbean Orange

Hope this clears things up

If it is an early red t-jet with skydome roof you are looking at it will be a dead ringer for my car. The roof is well worth having as it not only brightens up the interior a great deal but it also makes the car look far more modern from the outside. It’s lovely on sunny days too.

If you are buying a t-jet don't count on getting anywhere near the official 42 mpg. 37mpg is good going on a long run and 34mpg is a good average in mixed driving, overall a bit disappointing really.

As for performance, the beauty of the t-jet lies in its torque rather than the flat out performance. It will pull happily from 1000 rpm and is on boost from 1500, this makes it a pleasure to trundle around town in. On the motorway a lowish 5th and lack of 6th are slightly annoying.

As for the rest of the driving experience, you will find initial turn in is keen but the car pushes into understeer far too easily, neutral it is not. The steering is slick without offering any real feel and the ride is fine for a warm hatch.

Overall I’d say that whilst fuel economy is poor and the on-limit dynamics are no better, I’m rather happy with my t-jet and would have another one

Thanks for the input, the other punto is a red skydome t-jet, to be honest I would rather that one it looks very nice, looks sportier if you know what I mean. It's just getting it down to 5000 from 5600 maybe I could spare a couple hundred more. Coming from a mk1 will be a huge step up also I never go on motorways so 5 gears should be ok for me. I assume theres a blind to cover the glass up like a regular sunroof, stupid question I know but it's best to check everything out.

Yes there are roller blinds front and rear. I'm guessing you might not have realised that there is a rear sunroof too? It is fixed but lets in lots of light.

No I didn't realise there was a rear sunroof, not a problem though sounds nice to be honest, cheers.(y)

@dlightswitch - just seen your post about the gearbox gasket, when i had the undertray off this morning i noticed a small covering of oil on the gearbox, it wasnt obviously dripping down onto the undertray but the gearbox casing just seemed to be covered in a thin film

reckon this is something that needs sorting straight away or will it do leaving it til its serviced? also... is it an expensive job? i would attempt it myself, just with it being the gearbox i wouldnt want to screw it up :/

Best thing to do is wipe it all off, spray some degreaser/WD40 on there to aid with the cleaning. And see if any more oil comes out after driving the car for a little bit. Best to check the oil level in your gearbox as well, theres a allen headed bolt a bit higher up (you can look on Andy Montys guide, it's a similar box). Running without gearbox oil would be a very bad thing to do, without lubrication the teeth on the gears can break and wreck the entire box.
It would most likely be an expensive job as the gearbox has to be opened up to replace the gasket, I'd definitely recommend you get fiat/a specialist to do it. Not sure if the gearbox would have to be taken out either, it's a possibility. If you're still under warranty it should be covered though.

Don't mean to panic you, I hope for your sake it's nothing :)

This is worrying me now, is it a common problem then, because I'm sick of things going wrong with the punto I have now, I don't want to have to keep fixing a 57 plate punto that's just annoying. :( I guess it's all part of owning a car.

His would be the 4th GP I've heard of having the problem, including mine. All cars have common problems, that's why we're telling you now so if the one you go to look at has this problem, you can reject it or ask that they fix it before you buy the car. And once it's fixed it shouldn't happen again.

Yeah I understand and I really appreciate the advice I could end up buying a t-jet with a gearbox on its last legs if it wasn't for your help. I'll check it all out and make sure I get a good condition GP. If not I'll have to wait for another one to pop up, no problem.
