Hello all, I've been running a Traffic for the past 5 years without much trouble, I tend to fill it up with to much weight and don't really need the space it has other than for ladders, I'm looking to cut fuel costs and decided today to get a price off a dealer I know for mine. £4k+vat which would put me in a low mile 1.3 doblo.
I had a 1.9 8 years back and liked it but can't remember what fuel consumption was like? I only carry hand tools and bits n bobs really but am a bit worried the 1.3 may be underpowered?
Any advice welcome!

Is there a lot of difference in consumption between 1.3 and 1.9 at low loads?
I'm viewing an 06 with 60k and 08 with 44k tomorrow....

I have the 1.3 MJ Family 7 Seater and although its a car and not a van, it has more than enough power to cruise at above motorway speed limits with 5 people on board (4 adults and 1 child) complete with a bootfull of luggage and other paraphanalia.

I've had a 1.3 diesel Doblo van since 2007. If I keep to 60 on the dual carriageways it does around 50mpg, going faster than that pushes it down into the 40's. I guess the small engine is working harder to shift the air out of the way by then!
It seems to do around 50mpg round town as well (where I spend much of my time in it) so it suits me well.

Seeings as their max legal speed is 60 that's not bad going IMO.

The plate under the bonnet on mine (2004 Doblo Cargo with no side doors) says 1925kg, so I reckon it's legal doing 70 on motorways. I'm aware others are 2000kg or more, but mine appears to be a lightweight!

It's a panel van and not a car derived van, so limited to 60 on motorways and 50 on single carriage ways by law. Any faster and you risk 3 points and £60.

Was a thread about it in LL between Christmas and new year just gone where someone got done doing 57 in a national speed limit section or single carriageway

Just bear in mind that if you're only doing 8k a year that you will need to run a more efficient vehicle for a long time before you recoup the money you spent replacing the vehicle. You should work out how much money you will save on fuel annually and compare that with how much you're spending on the new vehicle. also consider changes to tax and insurance costs.
Make sure you'll really save money! 4k buys a lot of extra fuel...

I'm getting £4k for existing van and looking to spend £3.5k on a doblo I get around 30mpg at the mo so over say three years that's probably £3k saved in fuel plus as you say cheaper insurance/tax. Your right I wouldn't spend more than my current van is worth to achieve better efficiency, no point.....
What's this speed limit business? Aren't all private owned vans limited by highway speed limits?

i ran transits uptill 2010 when i got the banana van 19 get around 50-gall on runs or around town ,fuel bill dropped from £35 a week - £40 per month
just re-insuring it fully comp £100 excess no tool cover but i dont use any ,business use ,full recovery etc £387
no major faults usual wear & tear & a little :slayer: with the lowered suspension .
but overall well impressed.

£387 for business use!! wow im paying a bit more than that ( ,who's urs insured with as thats great value!,do u declare the susspension mods etc.....,ive put alloys on my van and....well the hassle getting it insured ..i end up staying with the same broker (
