General looking for some advice please?

Hi lads I've just signed up and been looking through the forum, very good site and very helpful . I had a question that I'm hoping will help me out alot. My mate has a punto gt turbo sat in his garage, he's thinking if selling to to make some money for a finance car... The engine runs but
Seems to over rev when it's cold, the car could do with new sills welded on and there are a few small rust holes in the floor. It's got a bigger turbo (haven't a clue what one yet) and claimed to be 170bhp, he only wants £400 for it and I'm thinking if I put some time into I could be rewarded with a nice car?! Can anyone help pointing me in the right direction please. Weather to stay away or shall I try and snatch it off him? I appreciate any help thankyou!

not sure what you are actually asking here. whether its worth the money, whether you should bother or what..

Doesn't sound from your description that its a easy fix, possibly even a reshell would be easier. But nothing is impossible. But don't buy it just because its £400 and that seems like a bargin cause by the end of it you will have spent a whole lot more than £400 i promise you that.

If you can weld, buy it.

If you can't, proceed with extreme caution.

High idle will be an air leak or over tight throttle cable.

All i can tell you is they are great little cars when sorted, mine is totally stock and is surprisingly rapid for a standard hatch. Only you can really decide if you want one, and how much work is involved as you seen the car, we have not.

try and take some pics of the car and in particular the problem/rusty areas so we can asses and give a better judgement.

don't be put off by rust but just think would it be easier to buy a gt for a couple of hundred ££ more which has none/very little rust
