Re: Looking at doing a service

Engine oil, dont laugh, but halford fully synthetic.I use it in my 1.8 and its superb. Its just shell helix in a grey bottle. What size engine do you have?

I have a pipercross panel replacement filter for a 1.8 HLX if your interested?

it's a 1.8 xreg it's got halfords stuff in it at the moment and have always used it with no problems... on this and my last one but was just wondering if there was any noticable difference with a branded type?

Just about ANY synthetic 10W40 is fine. Halfords is fine, Granville is a lot cheaper, and still as fine, and the stuff they sell in ASDA for a tenner (magnatec i think) is fine, so long as you pick up the 10W40 and not the 20W50! Local indy motorfactor (not Hellfrauds) is likely to be cheapest next to asda

i know someone in halfords that runs his civic type R on
Halfords 5W/50 Fully Synthetic Track Day Oil 5L ,and he says this stuff is great.Good price too

cool i'll get some cheap from motorworld or somewhere... guessing it's the same opinion on gearbox oil from halfords and the like? what about antifreeze? spark plugs? air filter brands? oil filters?

Antifreeze - Comma
Oil filter - Champion
Spark plugs - Bosch Super 4
Air filter - Pipercross panel replacement
Gear box oil -Castrol manual SMX-S

what websites will i be able to get the lot from?

also lee you have mail

Check out shop4parts.If you just wanted original parts and are not too fussed about having the best of everything and you could probably get everything from there. The max shipping charge is £7.95 and that's for Over 1kg.I don't know if you'd want to change your fuel filter too.If your not too bothered about waiting a few day's for your stuff then it's ok.But if you want to get stuck in straight away then i suppose it would have to be the usual suspects.Looking at the other parts thats been mentioned.I suppose you only get out what you put in and what you pay for.

Boo members also get discounts at Opie Oils. They dont stock cheap and nasty stuff tho, only the best of kit.

regarding filling the gearbox on the 1.8?? how do u go about this? is there a hole? what tools are needed? considering this on mine

Thank
Ade

Everyone, including FIAT, recommend 10W40, (except anon) Stick to that. Your engine will be a bit older and a bit looser, so no need to go for thinner oils. 5W40 or 5W30 wont kill it, but i'd stick to what the experts suggest. ;)
