Hi All,

new forum member here (so pls be kind)

im looking to buy some Longitudinal Roof Bars for a panda (my life, from april this year) Main dealer does not know how to get hold of any for me.

Have tried ebay & local scrap yards for seconds hands ones, but not had much luck (well been looking for about a month now)

Can anyone here be any help? (or have any the wish to sell, in Portsmouth, or hampshire general area)

I've had my Panda for 4 years and I managed to get a set only 2 months ago after 3.5years of looking!! Good luck, they are an extremely rare find. If I sell my Panda in 2012, the roof bars will be going seperately to a lucky forum member! :p

Good bloody luck :bang:

They do pop up on Ebay but got for a kings ransom :bang:

All the old folk pottering about in the Actives never using the bloody roof bars makes me mad :bang:

There is an old guy down the road from me with a purple Active and his as silver roof bars  they look bloody good and would suit my blue 100hp better :bang:

I borrowed a set off a former forum user and iirc he picked his up for about £30 from a local breakers yard, the lucky so and so :bang:

In the end I bought the ones that go across the roof instead, far cheaper but still want some of the longitude bars.

why do you need 'bloody' longitude bars then??

Normal roof bars work fine, and are far cheaper, don't forget you need roof bars on top of the longitude bars!

Hi All,

thanks for all your replys.

@james pls bare me in mind in 2012 (if i have not found any by then!) :)

@Most Easterly, tried them; they have never had luck ordeing them historically; i got the impression they could not be bothered to try to order them for me.

@dave yer tell me about it, ive never seen any on ebay while ive been looking anyway, i think i am just going to have to end up buying the ones that go accross the roof (i think they are only about £65 ish from Fiat)

Since you have some dave do they attached to the mounting holes that the longitudnal bars would attached to or they attached via some other method?

and agree they look better than on the car than the standalong cross bars when left on. Im prob going to be doing about 10 ~ 15k a year with the roof bars on so somthing that looks good would be nice since i will prob never take them off.

i was going to add a wind deflector to help out with economy when not carrying anytghing on roof rack (since i will prob never take the rack off)

when i lived in the US i have a Thule 871XT wind deflector for this, but they dont seem to sell them over here now. Seen a couple on line from other companies but they look to be poor quality.

Anyone know if i can get Thule 871XT over here (i cant find it on their UK website)

wow that was a long post. better press send now.....

well if they only go into the holes in the roof then i probably would remove them.

are you saying that then dont attached under the door sills then at the top (which was how my previous car mounted roof bars)

There are panda roof bars on sale on eBay at the moment! Move quick to secure! If I had the money, I would buy a set!

Hi (again all)

so i managed to aquire a set of bars for my car.

Anyone have any idea how i actually fit them. They are rattling a bit (think the screws are inside them for attaching to the roof)

there appears to be some covers over each end that could come off but i dont want to pull at them to much in case i break them.

could anyone here advise how i attached them (or get access to the mountion points)

Cheers

thanks, my question was really "how do i remove the covers from the actual bars" since they dont seem to come off very easily and i dont want to dammage them

Yeah, as MEP says, you just need to prise them off. They're a little intimidating, but don't be afraid to use a little force. Chances are a clip or two might break, as I don't think they're really meant to come off once it's on the car, but they should still fit pretty securely.

Once you've got them off, the black blanking plastic bits just unscrew from the top of the car and you bolt the roof rack onto those holes. The hardest part is getting the covers off, actually bolting them to the car takes about 10 minutes.
