hello all you lovely forumers
i have a y reg petrol multi and am a rather good diy mechanic (head swells) lol. but i have a slight problem. i have the fault code p0115 which is the Engine Coolant Temperature Circuit Malfunction, i know this is a sensor and have ordered a new one.... but i cant for the life of me find the old one could anyone please point me in the right direction, or show me a pic!! thanks :bang:

Not sure on the petrol models ...... is it not on the thermostat ?

We are talking water temp sensor here arent we.

im not sure, think it is water temp sensor. but dont know where to start looking to compare them to replace the old one thanks

Yes it's on the thermostat, which is bolted on the right side of the engine. You can see 3 or 4 coolant hoses going in to it.

do you mean this thanks

now i thought that so i have checked all my connectors, after finding the bloody thing! and checked the sensor, still got error code so going to fetch the new one tomorrow try it out and if i still get fault code at least i will have a spare lol. its only 20quid so might as well change it. thanks for your advice though

got new sensor, fitted it, now everything is fine took it out on a 50 mile round trip and no eml yeah!! what i have noticed is that the engine is a lot quieter and its mpg has gone up aswell. thats confused me as i thought it was just a temperature sensor or is it unrelated!!! (y)(y)(y)

thanks everyone for your help

It is "just a temperature sensor" but, as with most ECU controlled engines, the sensor doesn't only control the temperature gauge.

The signal from the temperature sensor is used by the ECU to control the amount of fuel injected and when to turn on the radiator cooling fan(s).

If your sensor was open circuit (high/infinate resistance) it would have been telling the ECU your engine was cold, hence the extra fuel consumption.
