Hello All,
I am having issues with my 2016 fiat 500x.

It’s a diesel auto, and I keep getting the engine light come on, and waning saying start stop unavailable, and drive mode unavailable.
It appears to be dropping into limp mode after about 5 mins of driving.
It has recent been serviced, it’s had a new lambda sensor fitted but the issue remains.

Garage don’t seem to have any ideas.

Can you help?

Many thanks

Chris

Was it a Fiat Dealer / Specialist who serviced your 500X?

With a Fiat diesel engine fitted with Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) (which your 500X will be) then when it is serviced and the oil changed then not only does the normal Service Reset need to be done BUT IT IS CRITICAL that the Oil Change reset is also done. If this is not done the a point in time will come when the engine ECU will no longer regenerate the DPF and the DPF will clog up which can cause the car to go into limp mode.

As @DGPunto mentioned if the EML (Engine Management Light) is coming on then the ECU will be recording fault codes and these need to read.

Hello Chris

Did you ever find a solution to this problem? I also have a 2016 500X, but the petrol version. The Fiat dealership can't seem to resolve the same problems. When the car is in limp mode, I have to pull over, turn off the ignition, and wait a moment or two before starting the car again to fix the problem and restore regular driving. Really annoying.

I hope you can let me know if this was resolved.

Regards,

Wessel

The renegade has the same electro-mechanical set up as the 500 X…the wife’s did this and it was one of the stop/start sensors…on autos, at least, there is a ‘position sensor’ on the gear lever, one on the gearbox and the usual throttle/ecu sensor…unfortunately code reader just said stop start fault, no **** sherlock…we have a very good Jeep independent garage, Hargreaves in Riddlesden West Yorkshire and he traced it to the sensor above gearbox…worth a try looking at renegade forum, mainly as Fiat dealerships are now only capable of ‘computer says no’
