Hi ive got a 2002 fiat punto and ive noticed that whenever i take the key out of the ignition the handbrake light remains on, also sometimes some of the other lights on the dash stay illuminated. any ideas to what the cause of this might be? any help greatly appreciated, thanks

Cant help you with the electrical problem but we have techs on here that should be able to so in the meanwhile WELCOME and post your fault in the Punto section for maximum exposure 
I had the same problem on my Mk2 Sporting while it was under warranty and all the mechanics said it was a faulty instrument cluster so they changed the instrument cluster but that didn't cure it.
Then they changed the body computer and that didn't cure it.
I found that the ignition switch appeared to be faulty and told the dealer but they said it wouldn't cure it.
After a lot of badgering they put a new ignition switch on and everything has been normal since.
There could well be diferent reason for your fault, but it's a good place to start.
Faulty ignition switch's are apparently a known problem.
