Hi, I'm new to the forum, I just bought my second car, an 08 1.4T Grande Punto, looks brilliant drives well, but a previous owner has swapped all the light bulbs and I'm getting a lot of flickering from them, a mate of mine has ruled out faulty wiring so it's the bulbs themselves, what are decent replacement options?

cheers ?

Well, the first question has to be do you really mean "all" the bulbs? By which I mean side, head, flashers, reversing, dashboard, etc? Or are you referring to really just the headlights and sidelights?

Then the next obvious question is when they flicker do they all flicker in unison, by which I mean as one lamp dims and brightens do all the others do exactly the same or do they flicker randomly with no relationship to another lamp?

Can I ask also if you can be sure your pal's examination of the wiring has produced a reliable outcome? Of course it goes without saying that your friend will have done the best for you that he can. But, as we don't know him, the obvious question is does he have competent electrical diagnostic skills or is he an enthusiastic amateur or perhaps just "enthusiastic"?

It's really most unlikely that if even a few of the lamps are flickering, let alone all of them, that the problem is going to be the bulbs. A poor connection, especially if it happens mostly when the vehicle is on the move and the wires are being subjected to shock and movement is more likely? Years ago I had a case where all the lamps were flickering together and it turned out to be a faulty alternator regulator. Thank goodness the owner noticed the lamps flickering as it could have caused damage to ECU's etc if it had got worse!

Maybe, with the answer to these questions answered, someone on here - maybe even me! - will be able to suggest something for you to try.

Hi.and welcome to FF.

IT was designed and built for basic bulbs.

The owners manual.. or one of the excellent GUIDES..and FAQs will tell you the original wattage.

Some older FIATs used unusual ratings..which would put on the bad.bulb telltale on the dash.if you just replaced a bilb 'at Halfords'.. :(

I Would check all earths.. then change the headlight bulbs 1st.. highest power consumption.
