Technical Learning injector codes ecu

Technical Learning injector codes ecu

Hi all
I have a 2007 2.2 ducato van & I've changed 1 of the injectors. My friend came & tried to learn it to the ecu but no luck.
What obd reader do I need?
Which multiecuscan version?
This adapter? https://m.gendan.co.uk/product_FESYELLOW.html

Many thanks😊
Just to clarify is engine running OK and you just need to "fine tune"/learn the injectors, if so you may get more information on the MES section of Forum.
May be I have been lucky but I have replaced several Bosch injectors after stripping and rebuilding them in the past and they ran quite acceptably without learning.
The reason I asked if it was running, is if any of the injectors had to have the top nuts removed to fit an injector extractor, even if no further dismantling takes place it is not uncommon for the glass/ceramic ball valve to come out of position, the result being massive leak off and low common rail pressure so non starting.
This can easily be tested for by a simple "leak off test" on all four injectors.
Forgive me if you already are aware of this.:)

Hi hubby not here, so answering on behalf of him.
We bought the van not knowing much about it. It ran really ruff with lots of white smoke. Hooked up to diagnostic machine & showed a failed injector. Replaced injector with 2nd hand 1. Still sounds ruff & white smoked & when hubby took it around the block it went into limp mode & wouldn't go past a certain mph.
Was told it could be because the new injector needs to be learned to the ecu.
Had 2 people come to look but couldn't read the ecu (don't think they had right diagnostic machine)
Got someone with a snap on diagnostic machine coming this week. Hopefully they'll be more help.
Thanks for your help.

Hopefully the guy with the Snap On diagnostic tool will be able to read the error codes better than the others, either way from what you both have said "learning" the injector will not be the answer.
A lot of people on this Forum use MES fiat based ECU scan tool and have a lot of knowledge regarding that.
Regarding the white smoke if it smells of diesel it is unburnt fuel which can be for many reasons and the other common whitish smoke issue can be the engine trying to run a "Regen" to clean the DPF filter, hopefully a good code read will give you more details.:)

My reccomendation for you would be OBDlink SX multiecuscan on a windows laptop. Multiecuscan has much more support than Alfaobd.

I have a OBDlink SX usb adaptor supplied from Gendan with Multiecuscan. The addition of a Usb/micro extention to a phone (samsung j6) allows me to use Alfaobd.
i have aquired a Bluetooth Vgate-iCarPro £24 from ebay. Beware there are cheap (£10) copies that do not work. I have had This working with both Multecuscan and AlfaOBD.
If you get MES i can then talk you through using it to get current codes and how to change them

Guy with snap on came today. Thought it was done. After he went I used cheap odb reader.
I'm now getting engine management light on & code p1304. Done some googling & got different results?
Many thanks

Does the engine still do white smoke? What did Snap On guy tell you?
The one I have just found said for Fiat error code P1304 on a Ducato with the same 2.2 Puma engine :-

2009 2.2 Puma engine, Visteon ECU-Pilot injector learn fail

Bit of a saga. During August suddenly ran really badly at idle-lots of white smoke and very smelly. AA transported to garage, who
fitted an EGR, and it wasn't too bad when warm but still smoked a lot from cold.
Went to Fiat who updated software and relearnt HP Fuel Pump and Pilot Injector, but still smoking when cold.
I've since cleaned and put the old EGR back in as it didn't appear to be faulty though there wasn't any change to the symptoms.
I put my scope on the Fuel Flow Regulator (Ford call it a SCV-Suction Control Valve) and the Fuel Pressure Sensor,
compared them with graphed live data, and could see the actual fuel pressure wasn't very stable compared to the desired
pressure, so replaced the FFV with a Denso unit.
I'm now really struggling to complete the Pilot Injector Learn, having initially carried out the HP Pump learn. I've been using Multiecuscan
but there are zero instructions for the procedure on this. I've now tried AlfaOBD, which holds your hand a bit through it.
It's getting someway through...runs at 1400 rpm for a bit, goes back to idle then stalls saying that conditions aren't met (paraphrasing slightly),
and sets P1304 code - Pilot Injector Learn error and sometime P1306 - Fuel pressure(high press. pump output or injector support).
These codes always clear immediately!
It runs a lot better from cold, with no smoke, but the EML comes on after a while and it goes into limp mode, with the same code P1304
Can anyone guide me on any wrinkles related to the procedure, or give me any tips on anything else to consider? Should I be considering
replacing the FPS? Have spent days and days scouring the internet, but can't find much on this.

Hi
Went back to snap on guy, he relearned 3 times now & it said complete but eml still remains on.
Called another mechanic who has told me it needs a fuel pump relearn?
Been doing some more googling & now I'm trying to reset my ecu by leaving my battery disconnected for 30mins.
Also now when I turn ignition on it displays my mileage but then shows 00---
Not sure if thats related?
Driving me crazy.
Thanks

Has any one heard of a fuel pump relearn? Or am I too old.
Don't think apart from clock and radio settings much will be gained/lost from battery disconnect. I know you could argue the the ECU will fine tune a little, but personally I have never seen much difference.
If you mean the total mileage travelled from new by the vehicle showing 00.... and not just the trip, whilst I have heard of programs to do that I can't see why anyone wanting to help your current issue would need to do that.
If no joy with MES, with it having the Puma 2.2 engine would the Peugeot Diagnostics be any help?

Hi bugsy,

Yes fuel pump learn on the ford 2.2 type engine is a thing .

Searching Google transit 2.2 pilot learn brings up quite a bit including pump learn.

I don't think the original poster has been looked after by the "snap on guy"
Leaving the vehicle with mil light on!!!! but then again if he was just asked to do pilot learn ......
There are so many unknowns with this van I think it should go to a diesel specialist to get to the bottom of it.
Calling in people to only do one specific thing at a time could be a long / painful/ expensive route.

How many miles?
Any service history?

One positive is being 2007 build year it may not have a dpf

Just curious, being old school I always had a preference for the older Sofim Series 2.8 litre engines mostly in Iveco Daily's. Between the "Puma 2,2" and the Sofim 2.3 engines, is there amongst Ducato owners a preference, as I seem to recall Ford Transits had issues with early 2.2 Puma diesel engines, something about metal particles in the injection system.

Gone from bad to worse now. Intermittently cuts out & unable to rev without it dying on me. Snap on guy came back & totally f***ed it up.
Had an aa man I know come & he said he's now reset my fuel pump & needed an ecu update.Without spending hundreds on it at fiat specialist, it's no good.
Think I'm going to scrap it.
Thanks to everyone that helped me.
All the best

Good you know an aa man who helped.
How many miles has it done?
Where are you located?
Is the mil light still on?
Any fault codes still showing.
Did helpful man say anything about diesel rail pressure problem?

Sorry to hear it sounds bad.
