My uno FIRE 45 is loosing a lot of coolant. In fact it is goin from max to min in 5 days!! I dont think that it is a good sign. Well coolant seems to be leaking from near the timing belt cover/water pump!!

Does anyone know what it could be and do u know if it is an expensive fix?? Thanks!

Sounds like the gland has gone in the water pump so you'll need a new one. When you change the pump you might as well stick a new cam belt on too.

There is a weep hole on the side of the pump and you should be able to see traces of the leak from that.

The good news is that they are very easy to change.

Also worth checking it isn't the core plug leaking / rusted thru, its under the top camshaft sprocket, looks a bit like a tin lid / saucer about 2" dia. Good news if it has gone it costs about a quid from fiat and you just lever out the old one and tapin the new one. The horror one is on the other side of the engine, its as easy to fit - once you have removed the entire gearbox as it's behind the bell housing - but that won't apply to you (y)

thanks guys,
I will definetely change the timing belt as Im at it!! I just booked the car at the garage! They said its the water pump that has gone. Now next tuesday I will take the car to have the pump changed. Was gonna do it myself as the Haynes shows it to be easy, but a special FIAT tool is required, and I dont like to play with the timing as if it not done properly you can ruin the whole engine!!

i have replaced my waterpump myself, just used some instant sealant from Halfords :)
was easy just didnt start the engine so the timing was changed from when i took the timing belt off. Although after replacing the waterpump qhich had a dodgey seal i found it was also the core plug that had rusted through, so off to the local Dealership (bedford priory) to buy a new one!

lucky the uno isn't on the road.
