Technical leaking gearbox, from drive shaft

Hi all, back from hols today and checked my onyx over....only to find a pool of gearbox oil under the off side shaft where it joins the gearbox, i searched the forum but could only find that using a sealant and refit the plate with the 3 bolts...

what sealant do i use, i suppose i have to drain the box again, cant remember if there is a gasket or rubber o ring that seals it or not.....darn blast these teathing troubles...LOL

The nearside has an O ring in the plastic bush that goes around the drive shaft and sits in the gaiter......I think the offside maybe the same...if so check that.

I had this problem just after I fitted a new boot, I unbolted it from the box, made sure everything was seated correctly and then put it back on. It hasn't leaked a drop since.

well i am going to buy a new boot and seal that goes on the shaft, i think the boot has a thin edge that sits against the box that makes the seal so will c.

The cv boot is the seal too, the plate with three bolts sandwiches it against the gearbox. If it's a new cv boot you shouldn't need sealer ( black silicone ).

cheers, getting new boot and shaft seal today, will fit tonight as i am replacing the hub carrier as well seeing as the near side ball joint popped out so dont want the other doing same, do it all at once...

my new boot leaked on mine.. you'll have fun getting to the upper bolt on the cv boot plate heh i did. arm down the side of the alternator kinda thing..

make sure you tighten them up good.. and it wont leak. mine has not and i used no sealant..

damn it....shop4parts havent got the parts....

can anyone help in locating a new rubber boot for the drivers side(long shaft side with 3 bolt plate) and a shaft seal(bit that goes about 6-8 inch up shaft inside boot).

I have drive shaft boots and bearings/seals, they are genuine Fiat, later type.

Here's some pics. for you to check you have the same.......





Let me know if you want them. I also have new lower ball joints/hub carriers if you haven't yet sorted one.

Thanks for the picks but that boot does not look like the one i need, it looks like an outer boot not an inner???

well i replaced the hub carrier last night and removed the off side shaft to check the boot, looked ok so i just cleaned it up, cleaned the box and refitted making sure the bolts where well tight, filled back upp with oil and no leaks this morning so will c how it goes this week.

Ah I thought that might be the case which is why I posted the pics. I would think yours is the earlier design that was used on the Mk1, not sure when they changed.

Sounds like you're sorted now anyway.

but, and a but n half...the damn wiper arm wont stay on the round bit in mechanism.
