Hi I have a Fiat Ducato based motorhome year 2009 with the 3 litre engine, it has the dreaded plastic fuel filter that has again decided to leak, can you get a replacement metal filter from one of the later models or do I have to replace with the plastic one, are they an easy part to replace.

Quite easy to replace. Two quick release fuel pipes and two electrical plugs to disconnect, then the whole filter housing lifts up out of the V shaped bracket.

These filters usually leak due the the cap not being torqued up correctly in the the tool used for changing the filter. If your housing is not damaged or cracked then buy a tool off eBay and fit a new genuine filter AND sealing ring, and torque the cap up to 30 Nm. Make sure you fit the cap back on in the correct orientation, best to mark it before taking apart.

If there is a problem with your filter housing, then let me know, as I have a brand new one I no longer require.

Most of the problems Ive seen is actually from over tightening causing the o ring to grab/pinch and not seal . Yes Ive seen all the posts and read the debates remember the actual torque is the same as used for a 5/16 bolt only 20 to 25 ft/lb first thing i teach apprentices is if an o ring leaks LOOSEN the fitting first then re tighten if you want to put a bit of diesel on the oring to lubricate it while doing it up much the same as you do with an oil filter its a plastic housing remember more is not always better

Ours failed towards the end of a long run up in the highlands of Scotland. We called the RAC who sent out a local garage and they diagnosed the filter and advised a new one, the guy said it was a common problem after a garage fitting a new element.
£285 + VAT 😳 but it was under warranty so the seller agreed to pay directly👍
