Technical £95 for a tyre and tracking

Was this a rip-off?? it was a Pirelli 175/50 14.
The gf went and got a tyre for her car and the mot is nearly due and this was the outcome. Balancing was extra and they only did 4-wheel alignment. Seems a bit over the top for a Seicento.

On the plus side they left the pressure at 28psi which is what we run them at.

Alba Tyres in Leeds was the place, make your own minds up!!

i paid £63 for a pirelli tyre and £13 for tracking

the tyres are so expensive cause there are a stupid size and i think only 2 companies make them, pirelli and goodyear , pirelli are normally the cheapest of the two

To do tracking properly, you are looking at £50 minimum if a new rack has been fitted. Some places charge a flat fee and hope it doesn't need too much doing to it.

Gotta agree with Rally Cinq, cheap tracking is not worth it. i paid £85 for tracking on the integrale, ok it is fully adjustable all round 4 wheel drive car etc but it took about an hour and half and totally transformed the car. BUt this was on a proper 4 wheel laser alignment machine where the check everything camber, castor, track etc against factory specs (though I put a little of my input in to make it turn quicker but easier to get back end out) was the best mod I ever done to my integrale.

my local garage does the whole shooting match for £35 :worship: camber ,castor toe etc

when my cinq is lowered its going back for a bit of toe in , at the moment it's all factory settings .

well worth finding a quality garage to do it as quickfit etc just cant manage to get it right or in most cases dont even have the equipment .

Sounds like it wasnt too bad, but should have shopped around a bit more.

My view is that girls normally get ripped off at garages. I think the guy was lucky that she didnt upset him, he reckoned it would take 20minutes whereas she was there an hour and a half.

my tracking took ages too , the bolts had seized or something, he then attacked it with a blow torch , when i mentioned that it was going back for a new petrol tank as there was a possibility of it leaking, he soon switched it off

You want the best tyre for the cinq and the cheapest its by a make called NanKang its EX500 OR XR611 (ex is better). I paid 65 for the two front tryes. And there a million times better than Pirelli and half the price

There is just no way that budget Nankangs are better than Pirellis...

Where did you get that from? If you have test reports could you show them?

There's no way I'd put Nankang tyres on my car:

a. because I'd look like a cheapskate

b. because I don't want to die
