General £500 for first VEL ?

Ok - just looking at the figures quoted for my new 500x.

And the 12 months VEL is £500 ?

Now, before I take this up with the dealer, am I missing something ?

no idea on the specifics.. but March 2017 saw the revising of the bands to "real world" emissions / pollution figures.

find a similar engined NEW one on the web and use the .gov.uk site to see the RFL charges.

The. VEL rates all changed on 1st April, not sure what they are now but they only apply to brand new cars, and I think the first year is loaded, so it could be right

when I bought my 875 cc twinair.. I thought I'd be paying @3100 after the 1st year.. but it's still £0

There are different rates for cars registered before and after 1st April 2017.

And different rates based on emmissions.

And different rates for 1st year.

Looks like somewhere around the £140 mark, from what I could tell.

This was known about since last year, when it was announced in the budget. It is not retrospective, so zero rated cars registered before April will remain so, whereas one registered now will be £140, plus a different first year charge.

What I was trying to tell you that there are LOTS of different rates now depending on age of car, emissions etc so, not knowing your EXACT circumstances, it would be easier for you to google.......from your wording, I assumed you were asking what YOURS would cost next year.

Mine will cost £140 in the 2nd year and subsequent years as far as I can see.

Yes, you only get hit in the first year. Car sales surged in March from buyers (mostly fleets) beating the deadline. Unsurprisingly, April sales are down on last year.
