Yeh thats fine but its knowing what to get.
Getting the best of everything wouldnt be rite for my needs, and knowing what to get is a mine field.
Is £500 your top budget?

I can take a look at speccing one up, but if you haven't done it before...

Maybe go for an Intel i5. I am not a fan of AMD in anycase.

For HD video editing stay away from AMD. Ideal solution would be a Intel i5 and preferably a ATI Radeon due to the fact you can use an "Avivo" compatible video rendering codec/program and literally half the amount of time it takes to encode video as it will utilise your graphics cards GPU as extra processing power.

Oops, already over budget

Plus I haven't budgeted for the wireless keyboard with built-in mouse, oops.

Certain components can be tweaked though. However, I am not a fan of cheap cases - my current case cost over £100 alone!

It only took me 10 minutes to do that initial spec, but a good start point - will need reviewing - plus I only looked at one supplier.

Cheers for your attempt a bit over budget though, i thought £500 was a good sum for a pc to handle editing HD.
Probably, but I tend to go over the top slightly. You really do need an i5 in my opinion.

We can come down on the case and the PSU though - £30 is a bit OTT for you, plus the mobo is only mATX. We could also look at a lower specced ATI card.

As for OS - that is up to you. You could go non-legit and save £70 or so - but personally I like a valid key for my OS :)

Dont you need at least 8gig RAM to render HD video in a reasonable time or can you change the 2x2gigs for 2x4 gig?

Also isnt it all about i7 now?

He is on a £500 budget - i7 means a whole different motherboard system, at more expense. Also, did you not read the bit about 'Avivo'...

And yes, he can put whatever memory he likes in - at a cost.

I thought you only did Macs? :p

Yeah but the Graphics is normally what 1gig of which a fair whack would be used for well graphics. But yeah i really dont know much at all. Just that to render properly takes a fair bit of memory. There must be a reason why power macs are mainly being used Video editors and less for Graphics these days.

Oh and macs are now Intel based. (unfortunately)
