Lazy boot struts

The tailgate on my '99 Brava barely stays open now, and I'm fed up getting whacked on the back of the head by the bottom edge. I assume the struts have simply had it. Any other suggestions, and any idea of dealer price for replacement part?

I'm having the same issue with mine atm. The situation is not helped with having dynamat padded inside it and a spoiler added.

Almost seems to be linked to the cold (ie. effectiveness wears off in cold weather). On the other hand it could be just down to old age.

I don't know if it will resolve the situation but perhaps consider purchasing some new ones?

will the inxx one not fit? i been thinkin about ir for mine as they look better in chromey kinda stainless tackle lol
