Went to start my car today and the car turns over ok but at the second it kicks in there's a really loud sort of crunch/grind for a second or two then the car feels and sounds fine. First thought is maybe the starter motor is not disengaging properly or something like that. Seems as though the cold weather has taken it's toll this time round as the bonnet wouldn't open either lol

any ideas on what this noise could be?

1st thing that came to my mind was starter motor also.... it would be the obvious choice as would do just as you described. the only way you'll know really is when the bit drops off, or summit stops working!!! Just keep testing them brakes.... thats 1 thing you don't want to stop working as you only find out when you need them!!!!!!!

I had that problem to mate its the fan belt that needs tightin

bravo/a & marea's dont have a fan belt they have an aux belt as they have an electric fan and not a viscous fan

Sometimes the starter motor on mine screeches after I've just switched it on for a second or two. No issues really, it works so I leave it in.

I do have a spare in the garage just incase it fails one day :)

just an update really went to use the car again and it's now struggling to start, I have it booked in to the garage tomorrow I'll keep you all posted, hopefully it's not too expensive.

Everytime I get the money to start doing things to it something breaks lol!

I have had this on my old 2 Brav's

As you said it is normally the starter motor not disengaging and normally happens in the cold weather. I never found it to cause a problem, and the noise only lasts for 2 seconds.

if you are worried and as it may be struggling you could get it sorted :(

Hi Darren did it stop once the weather warmed up again?

Don't want to get done over with a starter motor I don't actually need?
