I just had my Punto for MOT today. It was free since I used a voucher given by kwik fit insurance.

The MOT failed because of the exhaust, the two front tyres and wiper blades. Including the 10% discount I get from my insurance company, they quote me a total of £292.
If I remember they said around £147 for two part exhaust, £20 for wiper blades and the rest for tyres.
Is this price reasonable?

People at work keep telling me that they are rip off.
Who should I trust? Should I just go to a local garage?

Another crazy thing they told me at kwik fit is that since the car was tested and failed, it's illegal to take it back on the road eventhough my old MOT expires on 23 of May.
Is there any truth in that?

Please help. Any advice whould be much appreciated.

I believe you are legally entitled to drive it home and nowhere else from an MOT fail, however just rebook it somewhere half decent, as you are also allowed to drive to a pre booked MOT without a current or valid one.

I`ve also been told once you put your car through its MOT and it fails then the car should not be on the road even if you process it earlier than when its due, i did this 3 weeks ago with my Citroen prior to sellling it - thankfully it passed its MOT and is now owned by my brother (couldnt sell it to him with 2 months mot could I?:D)

I`ve used Kwit fit for oil changes recently but wouldnt trust them with anything else personally. Im sure they are all franchised now anyway so each owner/operator does what they like or can get away with:mad:

Finding a decent and honest garage has been one of my pet hates for 30 years, im sure there are a few out there but so far ive not had much luck.

Good luck(y)

They are correct, if you book an mot before the date of the old one, and it fails then you can only drive home. If you then book another mot somewhere else then you can drive to and from that place. The problem is that once a car fails an mot is would be illegal to drive as it has no current mot, and if you have it tested before the old one runs out , the time between the proposed test and the date on the old cetificate doesn' t matter. :)

or to and from a place of repair ;)

An Absolute joke from mine and family members past experience.

Took it to an independant approved garage and all they said were that were the headlights slightly needed adjusting .

I will never ever take a car to Kwik Fit again. Shocking staff with a stinking attitude also....

They said that the Wiper blades needed changing (they didn't) Wiper Arms needed replacing, reg plate needed replacing, and lights. There were other things i cannot remember too.
