result is the same knocking sounds still there, checked the ARB bushes and they look perfect is there anything else i could check/replace

Steering rod ends ?

cheers for the reply. when u say the ARB ends do u mean the ARB drop links??

thought if it was any of the ARB bushes etc or drop links then it would have been picked up on wed at the mot??

its getting really annoying now thought that when i changed the wishbone it wouldve been cleared

Yes with ends, I meant droplinks.

I was not sure with my ARB bushings were worn, until I removed both drop links and wiggled the bar. Then really could feel the play, and hear the clunk.

I'm also not sure how detailed the MOT is in the UK, mine passed in Iceland, with worn out bushings in the ARB.

had my front suspension apart yesteday. General check and to replace the droplinks as one was worn. my car was mot'd 4 months ago and the knocking noise which is a worn ARB rubber was just an advisory. After checking yesterday it appears my rear bush on the passengers side front wishbone is badly worn too but was very difficult to find with the old big metal bar and lever routine. instead i had to put the wheel on and get somebody to push on a big wheel brace while i looked underneath to find where the movement was coming from.

Just as a temporary measure and to make sure the arb rubbers being replaced would quieten down the knocking i undid the 4 bolts holding the ARB in place and slid the clamps and rubbers down the bar a few inchs. then wrapped some pvc tape round the bar where the rubbers normally sit (just a couple of turns round the bar) and slid the clamps back to the correct place using a little WD40.

Put back together with the new drop links and took out for a run - all knocking noises dissappeared.

This has proven that it is definately the ARB rubbers causing the knock and now i can go and buy them with confidence. This is obviously not a fix for the worn bushes but a good diagnostic tool.

I had the same problem, I replaced the arb bushes by new ones from silentblocks.com, I'm very pleased with them.
