Buy a Haynes manual would be my advice, always a good friend a book that shows how. Probably Drop links but could be suspension bushes or track rod ends. Drop links would be my guess and its a DIY job if you have the time, place and a suitable set of tools. Shop4parts can supply, but you should have no problem locating a supplier.
Drop links or suspension arms. Both common. Drop links I'm told are an easy DIY job. Suspension armsare trickier. Last one I had done cost £130 but that was a main dealer but with a discount.
dont cry but you would have saved over £100 doing it yourself, and tbh its easy.
mine was knocking and it got picked up on mot, was track rod end £108 later it was quiet - now other side knocking :bang:

Is the knocking coming from the front or the rear ?
Mine had a regular knocking noise at the front over bumps and rough surfaces not loud but enough to annoy. I changed the droplinks and now it's fine. Dead easy job as long as the nuts aren't rusted on. I was advised by someone on this forum to change both at the same time because if one is knackered then the other usually isn't far behind. They cost me £16 for the pair from a local motor factors and took about an hour to change.
If it is knocking from the front have you checked that you haven't got a snapped spring? Usually a visual inspection of the spring will suffice and you should be able to spot any break.
The droplink fit's between the strut and the anti-roll bar. Looks like a metal bar about 6"-7" long or so with a balljoint at either end. Someone please correct me if I am wrong, full of cold today s my brain isn't working

jack the car up both front wheels off the ground remove the wheels and disconnect the drop links from the roll bar check for any movement or play in the links and then check the roll bar for up and down play dont mind the side to side it has to be really bad for that to cause a knock or remove the drop links altogether and go for a small drive over a rough road if the knock is gone its your links or roll bar if not check wishbones and track rod ends (tools needed to remove links: 17mm spanner and a 5mm alan key)
