Technical Knocking Noise???

hi all my 98 marea 2.0 20v has stated to make an alarming knocking noise, ive took oil filler cap off and the noise does not get any louder as i was expecting it to i thought it may need new camshaft, any ideas would be much appreaciated.

oh the mileage is 63000 miles if that help...

What kind of knocking noise is it?
Does it only happen at certain revs, or does it get faster as the revs increase.

Last knocking noise I had was a bent conrod and busted crank. I hope your is something else.

its more of a tapping from the top end, its seems to come from the back cam and its there all the way through rev range

Mines has a tapping from the rear cam area aswell. Not to loud only really notice it with the bonnet up?
I've never really bothered about it. Didn't think it was a problem. Dunno if your is the same thing though.

yes, and it is probably the tappets, mine also make a bit of noise while warming up
