General Knocking Noise from engine can anyone help

Hi

Would really appriciate some help with this one.

I have a 1995 Cinquecento 899cc that has done 54000 miles.

My girlfriend drove it home today and it has the worst knocking noise coming the engine, and she says it was lacking power as well. Have not yet investigated fully but no smoke coming from exhaust and starts every time.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Would suggest valve train, thats easy to get at so pop the top off and start there.
