Technical knocking from engine

i am new to all this but would like to ask if anybody could tell me why my 51 plate 1.9jtd is making a knocking sound coming from the engine when i start it up,the noise is quiet loud and gets quieter or stops when being driven,thanks in advance for any suggestions to my queiry
