Knocking at low revs

Hi All,

My Bravo seems to be making a knocking (almost rattling) type noise when travelling at low revs. It seems to be coming from the front passenger side somewhere.

The noise doesn't happen when the in neutral or if the clutch is pressed and only seems to happen in first or second gear.

The Bravo is a 2001 1.6, with about 45k on the clock.

Any ideas would be greatfully appreciated!

Thanks,

Matt.

Okay, a bit more information (having just been out in it), the knocking seems to happen across the rev range but more audiable at low revs.

Thanks,

Matt.

Hi Tom,

I'm pretty sure it is rev related, but it is difficult to tell.

I'm planning on getting the front end jacked up and trying it to see if I can track the problem down a bit more but I doubt I will have a chance to do that this week.

Matt.

Try the exhuast heat shields theres one that sit on top of the manifold that rattles at a particular rev range and another that rattles near the down pipe usually.

let us know wat it is

Hi All,

Well we've done some more checking at this end, and explained the problem to one of the guys at work (is a mechanic by trade, god knows why he works here though!).

Apparently he reckons it is probably the gearbox.

Any ideas how much this is likely to set me back? And any ideas how I can make sure this is the problem?

Cheers,

Matt.
