No this isn't a joke :)

Rite... on my Bravo I've got a strange knocking noise coming from the rear of my car. I've emptied the boot entirely (spare wheel, tools, crap in the boot itself, etc.) and still get a knocking noise. Its a plastically knocking sound on plastic/metal and its driving (boom boom) me up the wall.

Sounds like its coming from bumper/boot lid area - right at the back of the car. Was louder when I had the parcel shelf out of the car.

Doesn't appear to be the exhaust - it squeeks a little but doesn't knock.

I've taken off the plastic surround on the boot lid (inside) and there's nothing loose in it. As for wiper part - nothing really loose to knock there either.

It won't knock when accelerating or stopping. Only over certain bumps.

Any clues or ideas received with thanks. If it wasn't for this knocking sound, the car would be pretty damn quiet!

Have you checked your lower suspension arms?
You also get this fault on punto's (as my wifes did) knocks only happened over certain bumps and cornering.

Also try checking your plastic inner wheel arches.

Hope this is of help.

One of the earliest "modifications" for the Bravo was to do with the rear seat catches, Too much free play, so they cause a knocking noise going over bumps.
Worth further investigation, I'd say.
Cure? Under waranty, Fiat did the mod for me. Bit of duck tape to fill the gap!

Its definately gonna be the back seat catches mate ...well known problem with them ..in fact my tape has just worn through earlier in the week and started knocking again ..just not got round to fixing it again yet ....

It sounds just like your back shock absorber is loose or something

Though you say it's not the exhaust, have you recently had a new one fitted? I had the same kind of knocking on mine and it turned out to be the rubber washer/fitting, (whatever you want to call it!) near the end of the exhaust, which was allowing movement, thus creating a banging noise that for about 2 weeks' I thought was something to do with my suspension.

Had the correct rubber fitted and it's now fine.

possibly the rear trailing arms perhaps? mine does this also mate.
was this knocking/banging on my old punto that drove me nuts then made it fail its mot.
Just a thought.

knock knock

i've an annoying knocking coming from the off side rear suspension when going at low to moderate speed (30-40mph) over uneven surfaces such as poor road surfaces or road repairs especially pootling along in 4th or 5th in towns. It's doing my head in.

Trailing arms or bushes maybe? Shock absorber isn't loose neither the wheel.

Had a similar prob with front suspension on a 205 and it was the anti-roll bar drop links and the top strut rubber mountings that had worn and needed replacing.

hope it's not expensive. guess it must be a common prob as a few seem to have experienced similar symptoms.

Re: knock knock

Worthing checking the rear seats first guys...had mine into a garage twice, when i first bought it looking for the problem...

Problem fixed with a bit of inuslation tape...
