Last Tuesday I was booked for a tyre fitting @KF this never ended up happening as I was fqd about. I sent this email of complaint on Wednesday; and have heard nothing, I'll paste the email in below, can you just advise me guys whether I have grounds to complain/what I might expect out of this?

To Whom It May Concern,
On Thursday 10th February an order was placed for four Pirelli Cinturato 145 70 13 tyres to be fitted to my fiat cinquecento vehicle reg 95' - M - .
The order was placed and paid for on the internet and we were advised that the tyres could be fitted on Tuesday 15th Feb at 12.00pm
On Friday February 11th I visited the centre in person and spoke with the gentleman there to confirm the booking. I was advised that even though the
tyres were not currently in stock that day I was to be assured that they would certainly be ready for my convenience by 12 o'clock on february 15th
It was much to my disappointment that it was only at this time on Feb 15th I was informed by the staff at the centre, specifically by a man who I believe to be
the centre manager, a gentleman called Peter that the tyres I had ordered were not in stock. I was also thentold that they were not listed on the tyre delivery
scheduled at 14:30 either.
At this point Peter advised me that the centre held budget tyres which he suggested I get fitted instead as an alternative. I declined as it was not
the agreement which had been paid for. They were a different product to the one which was already bought and
paid for and is still listed as being available on your website.
Peter advised me yesterday that he is not even sure whether Pirelli
are still manufacturing this product line or how long I will have to wait for them to become available again.
It was at this point that Peter advised me of what had taken place under his authority as centre manager. Over the weekend whilst doing
the pre orders for the next week booking a member of staff had noted the unavailability of the Pirelli Cinturato product line and had instead ordered
Michelin Energy E3B 1
Tyre Size 145/70T13
It was at this point that I was advised by Peter that this alternative product was available to me at an extra cost of only £13.
I agreed to this but then Peter advised me that he had quoted me incorrectly and the cost was far greater that we had just
agreed as the michelins cost over £10 more per wheel.
I consider that the michelin product line I was offered was not a suitable alternative product given the much greater cost.
I feel that the Continental Eco Contact was a far more suitable and less expensive alternative and was not offered this option.
I feel aggrieved that I was not informed of the unavailability of the product which was bought and paid for considering that K**k fit were
supplied with 3 different methods of contacting us at the time of ordering
I was also upset that I found your staff members were very pushy for me to take the michelin tyres at greater expense and did not appreciate or apologise for messing me about.
they acted as though they were doing me a favour. I have wasted a lot of time and petrol visiting k**k-fit when I could have been told on the inetrnet or by phone that
there was a problem, I could have also been treated better in the light of your failure at kwik-fit to deliver my order.
the result of this was that I left kwik fit without four new tyres that are still urgently required.
please can you tell me what the situation is with regard to the tyres that I ordered and whether or not they are available before I decide how to proceed.
Many thanks for your help, your cooperation in this matter is appreciated and along with what you can do to put this matter right.

What do you reckon ? Am I too polite?

First point, don't ever ever ever ever ever ever go to Kwik $hit - the internet is awash with stories like yours - get a refund, and go somewhere else. if you really want to kick up a stink, demand a refund for the petrol costs of travelling back and forth but check the small print in the order as it may say something about them being able to substitute where availability forces them to do so.
The Pirelli's are indeed out of production. 145/70 seems like an odd size, I take it you're rolling on steelies rather than alloys? Otherwise, the alloys like 165/55.

Other places worth looking tyre-shopper, blackcircles and camskill (though they only supply, they don't fit - unless you're local to them).

Yeah I am rolling on the steels

it is a niche size I guess - I do want to get the white alloys in 13s but I will be saving for a while

I shopped around loads on all those sites and KF gave by far the cheapest way, I guess is cheap for a reason

Which tyres are recommended for this size?

Looking at Camskill I'd be going for the Continentals personally. Have a look for a local mobile fitters, the ones round here charge £40 for fitting, new valves, balancing and disposal of the old tyres and it's a lot safer if your current tyres are on the dangerous side of worn - better to spend a little more and get good service.

Hi there thanks for your replies I am in the process of getting this sorted out

KFQ have agreed to fit me the Michelin for the price of the Pirelli which are out of stock, Continental are also out of stock

there is just one thing that I urgently need to know: -

Wheel balancing KFQ charge £10.00 per wheel for "valve and balancing"

Surely these two things are required by law!?

That is what I was told when I was a tyre fitter; I have been trawling google for ages and can't find any definitive information in fact googling the uk tyre law brings up KFq website as the top link!?

Please anyone shed some light on this, is it normal to pay extra for the wheel to be balanced??

:/

So no-one is obliged to balance the wheel for you under the law?

Just curious as that was what was detailed to me when I worked in the industry.

It's pretty dangerous if they don't do it isn't it!?
