Just purchased a 2012 500c Lounge for the wife. It had very low miles and it was obvious the original owner took very good care of the vehicle. Took it to Fiat to get all the service up to date including reflashing the comupter, synthetic oil change, rotate tires etc. This particular dealer has one dedicated Fiat service manager and one Fiat master mechanic so it will be nice dealing with the same person everytime I need service. The vehicle only came with one key so I'm having another one made. I was shocked that it will run over $300. I called the dealer I bought the vehicle and they will pay. Are these keys or mini computers?

Thanks Gino

With my new car they gave me a standard key and a key with a remote fob. The remote is pricey and is coded to your car.

Both keys will have an RFID chip inserted which is interrogated by the car's computer before it will allow the engine to start. A purely mechanical key could open the doors etc but not start the vehicle. It is independent from the remote control circuit so that key will still start the car even if the R/C battery is missing..
