Metro Wolf,
When you finally get the correct cap - I would be very grateful if you could post the part number. With the cost of petrol in the UK rapidly approaching €1.50 a litre, I reckon a few of us will need one!

I suppose that it is too much to hope that the existing panda keys work the locking cap?

No probs. Likely to get it Tuesday or Wednesday this week. And you will need to use the extra keys supplied NOT the ignition key.

I will post the part no. and price as soon as I have got the correct locking fuel cap from our friends at Fiat ! :bang: :)

FIAT Dealer let me down again, saying "another week".

Went to my local car & home shop today and spotted fuel cap stated as for 98 on Punto. Seemed to have same lock as Idea and Panda. Bought two, £9.99 each (for our Idea and Panda) and they seem to work fine.

My opinion of FIAT parts shop now matches everyone elses I think. :bang:

I am sure Halfords do the 98 on Punto compatible locking cap if anyone wants to do the same as I have done.

Certainly beats chancing my car and petrol to the local yobs... (y)

Thanks Metro Wolf,
I'll get myself down to Halfords now. It was only reading this thread that I realised my 2005 4X4 doesn't have a locking fuel cap. Incredible! Most filler necks these days have something in to stop you syphoning fuel from the tank, but that's not the worry. It's some idiot putting something in there with the fuel that is the scary bit.
Thanks again

I have a R reg punto, so if i use that, will that be ok..can i swop them around?

If you want too , I can only say what I have done.

Can't see why not but I don't have a Punto so I don't know unfortunately..

I went to the local shop to tell them that the Punto fuel cap fits, " which one do you want, there are four different ones to choose from".
So off I went to another Fiat garage (not Macclesfield) they said about £8 come back next Monday.
I won't hold my breath.

I picked up my fuel cap today, the part number for anyone who is interested is 71802900 & the price £18.35
So much for the jokers at Macclesfield who said they don't make them.

Is this the same part for petrol and diesel?
