General key code light on dash

Morning Chaps,,
Dont know if anyone has had this problem,im getting the key sign coming up on the dash when i turn the ignition on sometimes,its supposed to go off after a second but more often it stays on and the van wont start,turn the ignition on and off a couple of times and the light go's off and it starts,,,,any sudgestions? Thanks in advance

Ive had it a few times when the light has stayed on, but the van has started and driven me to work, or wherever without any hitches, so Im afraid I cant help.
happened regularly for a couple of weeks but it seems to have stopped again now, so I dont know what was going on.
