Hi,

Does anyone have any experience of fitting a K7N 57i induction kit to a 1.8 (or any Bravo come to that) ? I'm primarily interested in any benefits you may have got - eg throttle response, power, even induction noise ! Also, did you think it was worth the expense, or would it have been better to go with a normal panel replacement type ? I've heard there are some supply problems with K&N. Any ideas where I can get one from without having to wait three months ?

I've just fitted some 17's to my 1.8 and had it lowered by 40mm. I'm well pleased with the results. I'll arrange to post some pictures to the site soon.

Thanks

Paul

57i kit

Hi Paul,

I too am thinking of fitting this kit but as yet am undecided for the same reasons - I think one of us will just have to bite the bullet and go for it. You can get the kit supposedly within 2-3 days from Kinnor services in Warrington (Pt no 57-0160) for £91.95 inc vat and postage. Their website is at http://www.knairfilters.com and you can order online. They reckon on a 5-10bhp increase and a much improved response across the rev range while under hard acceleration there is a distinct induction 'growl'. You can email any enquiries to them - I found them very helpful.

The 57i.

Hi ,

Well what I can say about the 57i is , that a friend of mine owns a Bravo 1.6 16v and he had a Green air filter and when he was pushing his car to the limits the engine seemed to be choking on high revs , even the noise sounded weired... so he heard about the 57i and he installed one , well the thing is that the engine seems to suck all the air that she requires at any rpm and even the engine it sound like she is in heaven , and about power , just Great.
So , for me the 57i is worth the costand wait.

regards
Colin

Fitted it

Hi Paul,

I've just fitted the 57i to my 1.8 Brava. Early impressions are good - the response is definitely improved, the engine revs easier now and certainly pulls better, even from low revs. There is a deep bark now under acceleration but its a nice sound - didn't offend the missus anyway! I haven't yet got around to fitting the supplied 'cold air hose' which goes between the front grille under the bumper and the cone filter (you have to remove the existing air scoop moulding and cut away a section of plastic next to the radiator) although from what I can see the existing air scoop channels cold air quite nicely to the cone after you remove the existing hose between the scoop and the old air box. The kit is dead easy to fit - just need a supersprint exhaust now!

Hope this is of use.

regards,

John.

Nice one

John,

Thanks for the message - I wasn't sure wether to fit one or not but your e-mail has made me decide to order one up !

I'll let you know what I think.

57i

Well, as you've spent your hard-earned on the strength of my e-mail, lets hope you like it!
I've been running mine for a couple of weeks now and have got used to the induction noise - sounds great under full throttle. I think if you want to improve things further you need to match the improved induction with a decent performance exhaust - I've been looking at the supersprint http://www.supersprint.com/fiat/fiat22.htm (about £300 + fitting) and also a Jetex back box (which is considerably cheaper and 100% stainless steel - about £190 + fitting). Don't know what to go for - the Supersprint has nice twin square tail pipes and the Jetex a single large rectangular pipe - any thoughts?

exhaust-ing

I think I'll be getting myself a 57i too, sounds great.
About the exhausts, Is the supersprint a full system? the pictures show it as a full system from the cat back. The Jetex is just a backbox. However, the Jetex comes with a lifetime warranty at least the ones I've seen do. The Supersprint only has 36 months warranty. Just some thoughts.

P.S. where did you find a Jetex with a square outlet? I can only find a round one.

Thanks

Exhausts

Matthew,

I haven't looked at my 1.8 factory exhaust in any detail but my old 1.4 had a single piece from the cat back. I've been told by a local dealer that any Jetex back box fitment usually replaces the original o.e.m. part as a whole so I assume, like the Supersprint, the Jetex also replaces everything from the cat back. The Jetex outlet is really a flattened oval, haven't found any website yet, but it is listed in my Demon Tweeks catalogue as a 'SO' (single oval) 135 x 76mm tailpipe at £168 + vat. I don't yet know if the rear valance needs to be modified to fit either of these.

Regards,

John

Correction!

Matthew,

You're right - the Bravo is a single round 100mm tailpipe - it is the Brava fitting that has the oval pipe.

Untitled

John,

I've ended up ordering a JR induction kit, due to long delivery times for the K&N stuff. I'll let you know how I get on, but it sounds promising (the kit includes yellow hosing with a green filter, hm nice !).

Re exhausts, I had a Supersprint fitted to my old Tipo and it sounded superb. Unobtrusive in the car but a fruity sound. My brother had a Jetex fitted to a 16v Golf which had twin outlets - slighty more noise and not so good build quality. If it was me, I'd go for the sprint.

Over to you.....

Paul

Supersprint

Paul,

Thanks for the info - after looking into it I think I'll save up and get the sprint like you suggested. Have you fitted the JR yet?

K&N hell

installed a K&N recently, have now got a HUGE flat spot at 1500 revs, really annoying, my engine also starts reving at 2500 revs, with the throttle released, and the injector light comes on, are the two related at all?? Any theorys welcome (fiats cost too much for servicing..)
