Hi all,

I just got a 90 60S 3 door carb model, I havent had an uno for a while, the last one was a 91 45 Spark about 10 years ago which I loved but my brother wrote it off just after passing his test!

This ones got 48,000 miles, mother & daughter previous owners & a full (VERY full) service history including £800 worth of recepts in the last 8 months!

However, its not running very smoothly, its got crap economy & the performance isnt as good as my old 45.

I`m already assuming the carbs on its way out & its taking its time when warming up, so a new thermostat is in order.

The clutch is a tad high & is stiff, so i`m assuming the slave cylinders about to pop.

Bits wise, has anyone got a good 1100 carb, a headlining (with the basic pop top sunroof) & a NSF wing knocking about? I`m in N London/Herts.

Also, has anyone tried bike carbs on the FIRE lump?

Heres a pic:

Cheers!

Hi:)

nice looker by the way

I would check the nozzles in the carb before replacing the carb, it's not very difficult, it's just to open the airfilter box, and there you should see 2 golden screws, check if they are clean, if they need cleaning count how many times the screws goes round, clean it with some petrole and pressure air, maybe a good idea to check the sparkplugs, airfilter.... see how the sparkplugs look, wet, black, white, they should have a very light brown colour. let us know how it goes

good luck :D

Cheers mate! I recently got 1 of my dream cars, a Jaguar XJR V8 which I`m happy with but I`m even more happy to have an Uno again!

I`ve already lent it to 1 of my friends who is using it daily tho, they dont live very close either, so I wanted to get hold of another carb to just bolt on quickly instead of taking the original one off & stripping/checking/cleaning it with the risk of something breaking & then being left with the car stranded.

The way it was running is pointing to it being a tired carb, I remember my old 45 had 3 carbs in 80,000 miles as well as a strip & clean every 10k or so.

Its a shame theres no compatible bolt on carbs or manifolds on the FIRE lump which is why I was wondering about bike carbs!

I`m also thinking of putting a 45 exhaust system on as it has the same bore but 1 less box which should improve breathing in theory.

I was going to change the plug leads cap & rotor arm when I get it back as well, I remember my old one used to eat them too (I always found Lucas ones to be the best quality wise).

I drove it round the block yesterday, the steering felt `slower` than my old one too, maybe a smaller steering wheel would help...

If anyone has got any of the bits, let me know!

Ta :)

The Jaguar XJR is a fantastic car, it really is(y)

ah, I see, it's much easier to get another carb an bolt it on, than to start working on it, but a carb isn't really that complicated to fix either:)

I don't know if bike carbs will fit, havent tried that out, but thanks for the idea:p

one less box on the exhaust system should improve performance a bit;)

Changing plugleads, cap and rotor arm should also improve the performance when it's like you say it is.(a bit of bad english there:p)

changing the steeringwheel is a good idea if you think the steering is a bit slow.

don't think tha carb in my SX or 45 FIRE has been changed, and they have done: SX:96312 miles, 45:142915 miles:D

Did you check vacuum advance? Very often problem.
