What a nightmare!
Should have been pretty straight forward if it wasn't for the crappy egr heat exchanger that is bolted to the lower thermostat bolt!
Couldn't budge it for ages...has an unaccessable bolt right round the back of the engine...managed the top one, but just couldn't get to it!
Ended up forcing it away and bending the bracket to get it off...
Had to also remove the battery, intercooler pipe and various other pipes just to get half decent access.
Not given it a decent run yet but heater seems warmer..but main reason was that the gauge wasn't rising above 1 bar unless stationary for a while, so it was letting by.
Anyone needs any pointers just let me know

It was an 88 degrees one...doesn't seem to be much choice really...but as I said, mine was stuck open as it would stay on one bar after a 30mile drive!
And I managed to get it for £41.41p from carparts4less who matched mister-auto price, delivered next day for free..
Its a calorstat

Well its all seems a success! Fingers crossed..
Car is at 3 bars after 3 miles and it has hot air blowing for the first time since I've owned it!
Now waiting for the next thing to break/need replacing
