Congratulations...........

Regarding your stickers. Warm them up with a hairdryer and scrape them off with an old credit card (or something similar), then remove the last traces of adheasive with meths.

The paint is likely to be faded underneath the stickers. You may need to T-Cut where the stickers were if the paint is faded. That should make it less noticeable. As pandafan says then, warm them up and peel them off. If you do T-Cut the car make sure you wax/polish it afterwards. What do the stickers say? No reason for asking other than curiosity

Regarding the pedals, a dollop of grease should sort that out.

How's third gear? :)

erm, this may be a stupid questin but what do you mean by T-Cut?

third gear is ok i think, my dad drove it back as i only have a provisional license. He had trouble with 5th gear though, also the gears are pretty far apart aren't they :)

Congratulations you got a really fun little car there :) I wouldnt worry about the door too much later Pandas are vastly better than early ones as far as rust in concerned. Waxoyl mixed with white spirit is good rust proofer. Gears can be bit strange but u get used to them.

As I understand it -

This Panda has metallic paint: think twice about "T"-cutting.

"T"-cut is a fine abrasive which takes the top layer of paint off - it's OK in moderation on conventional paint, it removes the oxidised layer to reveal the original colour, which helps with matching newly exposed paint.
Hence the advice above by Steve C.

Metallic paint is usually a soft paint with the metallic finish covered by a hard varnish coat.
The varnish doesn't respond well to abrasives (unless you find one which is very very fine, and made for metallics), afterwards it can look like somebody has been ice skating all over it. Which may involve a respray to sort out.

The gearchange, and 'box, on the later Pandas is different to the early ones, and generally better - you will have synchromesh on third, for example.

Difficulty with selection is likely to be dry linkages and lack of use.

A drop of thin oil on each of the linkages at either end of the cables, and some use, will probably work wonders.

Let us know how you get on.

Unless you use T-Cut correct it can be a nightmare!!!

I had a friend at work T-Cut his NEW  Corsa thinking it was a good thing to do. He used it in a circulal motion :bang: You cant imagine the mess.

It took me 2 hours of using the T-Cut in the correct way to get his nice metalic black paintwork on his bonnet sorted.

As long as you go with the lines of the car T-Cut is a fab thing.

However if you want results as good then check out: -

http://www.meguiars.co.uk/

There is an advice section on there well worth a look.

Personally for all my cars I use the 3 part polish they have out.

Part 1 is a paint cleaner / non abrasive T-Cut style thing (very good for cleaning the rear plastic screens on soft tops)

Part 2 is a Polish

Part 3 is a Carbanara (spelling) wax.

Anyone ever seeing the good old faded Red paints from older cars knows what it is like to try and revive their luster.

We did my dad's old runabout escort and the red came back up as good an new, show room new  by just doing this treatment once (y)

Oh and btw welcome to the panda world ;)

well the stickers are coming off ok, takes ages though. I've done one so far and the paint underneath isn't not faded (phew), i'm using label remover once i'm only left with the sticky stuff underneath.

I just realised the rust is at the edge of the door, near the bottom, will this be a problem?

pedals i'll sort out later as my dad is out at the moment, i'll see how the gears are after a bit of use.

thanks for all your advice (y)

Sorry that the hairdryer sticker removal is taking a long time.
You should see how long it takes to remove all the 4x4 stickers off a standard one !

As a point of fact: It's not the paint under the stickers that fades, but all the other paint on the car. Honest, trust me, I'm an artist !

alright....my first car was a panda too!! a 1000cx one and i can tell you that the rust on the door thing is quite common.Mine started to do it when i got shot of it, a good way of stopping it from getting worse is to take the trim pannel off on the inside of the door and give the inside of the door a propper good rousing with bearing grease or even better waxoil!, any water that gets it won't penertrate or drill tiny holes in the bottom to let the water out

Is that any help for ya?.... (y)

as i've just been quoted £40 to fit my stereo i've decided to do it myself. Looking at the diagram it looks like the plugs from my stereo into the plug in the car seems to connect power etc without me having to do any more, am i right? If thats the case the only wiring i need to do is the aerial and the speakers?

please let me know asap as i'd like to get this done tomorrow, thanks! :)

As for the rust then check out my Topic of "And so it begins" to see the extent it can get.

As for the stereo then best thig to do is buy a Multi-meter. that way you can check which wires are the live ones.
Earths are normally black. Speakers you can find out by checking their wires.

As for speaker locations I have mine under the seats. Not the best for quality I know but at least they are out of the way.

If your car has a stereo in atm then finding the correct wires will be easy. Just pull the old one out, check the wires and take it from there.

Make sure you dont disturb anything else though as the Panda has a long history of VERY bad earths.

Good luck with the fitting

Does it have a radio fitted already?

If so it will be attached to that. If not look around the outside of the car for signs of an arial. If it has try and follow the wire to it's end from the arial.

If it does not then you will have to fit one. If you not happy about mounting it outside the car you can buy in-car ones.
