I'm a new owner of a 1968 Fiat 600D (USA export model). It is in great condition. Sold new in California, it made its way to Oregon and is now in Arizona. It was originally beige but a previous owner had it repainted red. I'd like to get an owners manual for it and also a Haynes or Fiat workshop manual as I intend to keep this car for a long time and maintain it well. I found out the Fiat 600 was last made in Argentina (till 1982) and I've already bought some parts from there which are less expensive than Italian parts. I'd love to correspond with any Fiat 600 owners, especially owners in the USA.

cool i just bought my fiat 600e it hasn't been on the road since 1969
got it right here in az. sadly some rolled it so almost done fixing the roof. the engine was all dismantled in back seat along with i say 10lbs of rat ****:bang:
I doubt i use the engine probably convert it to another powerplant since fiat engine parts are hard to come by in the US.

Fiat parts are pretty easy to come by. You just need a motor from a Fiat 850. There are some issues to deal with such as the motor rotating in the opposite direction but the difficulties are not insurmountable. Certainly easier that fitting a non-Fiat motor. A Fiat 850 motor should be relatively easy to come by. You will ruin the integrity of the car if you fit a non-Fiat motor.

I was thinking of putting in a vw aircooled engine, since that what i familar with.I live in yuma and yet to see any fiat parts locally. I have a spare engine and transmission and junk pan to cut off the frame horns and weld onto the fiat, and i plan on get some shorten axles. I believe fiat width is around 80 and vw 92. I not concerned about integrity of the fiat since it beat up and not worthy of restoration of any kind. I seen some of the them on the Argentina websites they look clean. I just want the body to look OG.
Which way does the transmission turn on stock 600?
A friend, local machinist, offered to make a custom flywheel so i can attach a honda engine gx670 I had laying around. I'm not looking to sink that much money so i'm using what i have on hand.
Could you pass down the information on Argentina selllers you brought parts from?
I looking to buy the grill and some minor things

Hi there, I have just completed an eight year restoration of my '67 600D so have done every job you can think of. I managed to get a Fiat Workshop Manual a few years ago, so if I can be of any help please let me know. [email protected] There are only 61 of these left on the road in the U.K. so we belong to a very select band of owners!!

Congratulations on your acquisition. I to am a recent Fiat 600D UK owner also and finding that the parts and advice are a lot harder to source than I first thought. Mine is very stock even more rare original Right Hand Drive.
I'd be interested in how you get on in the US keeping on the road.

Regards
Dave

Making it over 3 years old.... Just saying.

The car is from 1968 so it is not so old of a thread. If there are any other US 600 owners please give me a shout. I just picked up a 1958 project.

Am still alive and kicking - had just forgotten my userid and password and was too lazy to go thru the rigmarole of resetting them up. Well today, I had a few spare minutes... I still have the Fiat 600D. Unfortunately its been idle in my garage for the last 3 years. I was starting it periodically but now it wont start. I suspect the petrol has gone bad. That probably means cleaning out the fuel tank, fuel hoses and cleaning the carb. The car never ran right and that is why I never bothered to register and use it. Unfortunately, I'm not much of a mechanic. I read all the manuals but don't know how to set up the distributor, ignition timing and the carb. I'm assuming that was what was wrong. My car has a non-original non-standard 850cc engine and non-original twin-choke carb so that makes it difficult to know exactly how to set it up. If there is anyone near Tempe, AZ, USA that could help, let me know. There are no Fiat specialists around here. The nearest is in California 400 miles away.

Let me know what you want to know about your 1958 Fiat. I have accumulated some knowledge and have a few contacts. Parts are more difficult to find for the early Fiat 600's because the later models were also made in Argentina which mean parts are more readily available near the USA. Even so, I'm sure you can obtain nearly anything with a little perseverance and some $$$.

WOW, you here still!! (y)
I wouldn't think you need a fiat specialist to get it setup properly, its not like its a complicated engine.. I would have thought if nothing else, a VeeDub shop would be my next stop, I'm right in thinking these are aircooled aren't I. I know its not the same engine but similar(ish), sure any decent garage could get it running ok though tbh.
Have you ever thought about fitting a VW air-cooled to it, i have seen quite a few old fiats with VW engines fitted - clearly the amount of bits available is huge in the VW scene so would make it easier once the conversion is done, not sure how involved the conversion is mind.

edit: good luck :)
