hey gents/ladies

just a quick question. I will trying to change my partners brake drums and shoes next week as i have a few days off from work ( to enjoy the sun as well ) . I have found these:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FIAT-SEIC...+Make:Fiat|Model:Seicento&hash=item4138cd9697

they should fit her car looking at description.

anyway i sort of have two question. is it fairly simply to do the change?

and the big one for me is do you think I should buy a new spring set for inside the drum or will the old ones not be stretched to the max?

Not difficult. I'm short on bandwidth, so won't comment on those in the link. Anything from Fiat, eurocarcare in Derby (google) or Halfords will be fine. The Seicento Technical Manual is in the downloads section. There is some cheap carp about.

3mm punch and an old, small, screwdriver handy.

The springs should be fine.

It is fairly easy to do but is fiddly, it just takes patience, what I find easier is some grips, pliers and copper grease for the back plate, as to the springs, they are fairly cheap, unless you know they are in good condition buy them anyway. As for the drums unless they are severely worn or blued from sticking you don't need them, just clean the lip off. Thats what i would do. Hope this helps.

make sure they are identical kit as they can vary, handbrake levers ,fixed or non fixed, when replacing shoes i use a small brake clamp to gently squeeze [ not cut in half ] rubber flexy hose to stop pistons in cylinders from popping out while shoes are off vehicle.
use this chart for guidance if needed as some models have different parts:bang:

if you have masking tape put it on surface of shoes to keep clean and remove when finished, and give the surface of brake drum a good rub of emery to clean it up and aid braking ,adjust brakes manually with tools so you will have a pedal to stop car.
