Can anyone give me some advice or help please.

Before anyone says anything, i know it wasn't big, and it wasn't clever.

I was travelling down the m58 doing 96mph nd 4,000revs, when it jumped out of 5th gear into neutral [?], dropped down to 80mph nd it did the same [?][?].
On the way back up the m58 stayed in 4th doing 80 nd nothing happened [?][?][?]
If i hold the gear knob up in 5th it stays in gear[?]
Does anyone one have any adivce apart from dont do 80 down the motorway in 5th [)]

Don't do 80 in 4th.[}:)];)

Could be synchro, but before you panic check the gearbox oil. You can also get gear oil additives that help when you start getting problems.

Dont forget to check under the gaiter for boiled sweets in the selector.

Got more additives than fuel in my tank.

kev thought it could be the oil so he's doing it tomorrow, he'd also thought of the linkage for the gear selector, he was hoping someone else was thinking along these lines. or if some-one could tell exactly what it was.

lol. ok i'll not do 80 in 4th neither then. :D
Worse thing was i didnt hear it happen cos the stereo was soo loud, just saw the revs go through the roof B), it was kev who said it had jumped out of gear [:0], better turn the stereo down a bit from now on :(

Dont worry touch much, this job can be done while the gearox is still in the car, just the end cover needs to be taken off. Replace 5th gear, synchro, sliding sleeve, and springs to be sure to cure it.
