been thinking about a JTD....needs to be the HLX model with aircon and front fog lights

tried autotrader and ebay but only one i found looked spot on but its down london and i aint traveling more than 100 miles to look at a motor.

anyone stumbled across one recently?

105 or 100 will do, 100 would be better but.......

Also, what other cars are out there that have diesels that are low insurnace group (8-10 so not alfa romeo!) but can be tuned really well and look nice. Thought about skoda vrs but it just don't stand out enough, would go for alfa but insurance groups are too high

for second hand not looking to spend more than 5k, new not looking to spend more than 12k ish

Peugeot 307 HDI these engines can be remapped but not as good as the JTD.

Or 1999 - 2001 VW Golf TDi

Hope you find one :) Great engine for me as I own one.

seat leon tdi, nige can breathe on them.
i was looking for 1 for awhile but could only find the basic s model. or a seat ibiza 130 tdi.

no apostrophy mate - JTDs unless you are referring to something belonging to a single JTD.

Mr Anon, are you the internet forums spellchecker that goes round checking posts and correcting peoples punctuation? At least take pride in the fact that you have great knowledge of the English language and put your name to it.

@rsmallwo- where are you based mate?

Re: jtd

Don't forget the apostrophe in "they're". Also, the full stop after "either" and before "but" should actually be a comma. Finally, "deer" should be spelt "dear" if referring to the cost.

LOL

Re: jtd

Lets help a little on the car front shall we.
You will not get a vRS for under £5k, so forget that, although it is the best of what was mentioned.
The Peugeot 306 is a dinosaur in terms of dynamics and the Peugeot 2.0 HDi is one of the poorer new generations of diesle engines and I would suggest avoiding.
I wouldn't be tempted by an early Stilo JTD for under £5k either.
That leaves the field open for VW PD engined cars. Seat Leon, Golf, Bora, Passat etc. The best choice is probably the "115" as the insurance is cheaper and there is a greater choice. Do NOT get anything pre late 2000 as it is the older ECU which cannot be remapped. The 115 can be taken over 150bhp for £, over 165bhp for ££ and over 180bhp for £££.
My suggestion would be an early Golf GT TDI 115 if you have the £5k to spend, but you will have to search for one as they are still around £5.5-£6k for a good one.
Lastly, avoid the "90" and "110" VW engines as they are not PD but the older engines.

hmmmm

just looked

bit expensive for what they look like

would get a fabia vrs instead really

Re: hmmmm

the vRS is soooo expensive. no matter where i look, you are lucky to get a grand off list price for one thats a year old! i was soo gonna have one, but not at that price!

new

buy it new then!!!

12k i think, if residual values are holding for it then why not.

question is when the residual's slip you will left out of pocket

Re: new

Er if you are not going to spend £5.5k on a Golf but spend £12k on a vRS am I missing a point here?
Do you have £12k to spend or £5k??? There is a bit of a difference!
If you have £12k to spend have a look at a Leon TDi 150 Cupra :), or an Alfa 147 ...or you might even get a 156 20v!!

Re: new

yeah, but MY budget is 8k max, and the guy whose thread this actually started out for, has 5k, which means no chance of getting a vRS basically, as Nige has already said, then just re-iterated, lol. anyhow, the novelty of the vRS has gotta wear out soom, so i reckon prices HAVE to start coming down. its the dealers who are holding it artificially high at the mo

sorry

sorry guys

i think i did meantion something at the top

5k for second hand or 12k for brand new......brand new one meaning i have to borrow lots and 5k meaning i have to borrow abit, wouldn't want to spend more than 5k on a second hand option but if the right "new" option came along then i may borrow more.

hope that clears that up

thanks for your suggestions, think i'll have to stick with old unreliable i'm afriad

Re: sorry

How about a second hand 147 M Jet? They are a few around now and some with the Lusso spec as well. Probably about £8k or there abouts.
