did anonomous have a point about the alfa clutch and fly wheel? cause that could be a very viable option?

Hi Thomas,

Thank you for your enquiry.

We can offer you one of our Fast Road three part clutch units for £155
including VAT and delivery. This particular clutch would easily cope with
your power ratings and remain nice to drive with. The only thing I would say
is that if you were using the vehicle on a track day and repeatedly
launching it off the line the organic friction material could become too
hot.

Regards,

John.

Hi John,

My car gets taken down a strip once a year for 2 runs, against the
petrol owners in our club..... I can't afford anymore than that....
:(

I have been intouch with a few people and also other Diesel tuned car
owners and they have pointed out, as I am finding, it's not do to the
clutch plate not being able to grip but the springs not keeping it
level and pressed hard enough against the fly wheel.

Do your clutches come with any guarentee, I currently travel around
15,000 miles a year so I get around a bit :)

Many thanks for getting back to me, I am defently interested. Thomas

------------------------------------------------

Brief history on organic friction material:

In the olden days on the first road clutches going up to the 1980s asbestos
friction material was used. Asbestos was an excellent friction material in
that if it did slip, it would simply expose a new fresh layer of material
rather than 'glaze' over; even if it became contaminated with oil, one was
able to burn it off and again expose a new layer of fresh uncontaminated
material. However due the health risks associated with asbestos, it was
banned and organic type material took its place.

Organic type material is made up of copper or fibre strands compressed in a
tough glue like substance. Unfortunately, more often than not, if an organic
friction disc slips just once it will lose its gripping properties due to
its face 'glazing' over. Organic material can become so hot, I have even
seen it go on fire- however you would have to be giving it some serious
abuse and you would smell it getting hot first.

Ceremetallic paddle units are extremely tough and will often wear the
flywheel down before the friction material, further they are not prone to
heat problems.

The clamp pressure on the cover is not usually the first factor that causes
problems on the clutch.

All I can say as far at the warranty goes- if you come across any problems
then give us a call and we will reason it out by either providing you with a
new clutch or an even stronger one.

Kind regards,

John.
P.S. If you require any technical assistance upon clutches for your forum
then we are always here to assist.

John you are a legend!! I just need to find some1 to fit it now for
less than the moon!!

Apparently it's an 8hr job that could turn into 9 or 10 very easliy!
Hence why I only really wanna fit a very good cluch and only once!

There is no listing on your web site for Fiats? Is it therefore a
special order part or a 1 off production item?

Reason I'm asking is, we may have a lot of members interested in a
better than OEM item but like to see their car listed on a screen to
give them confidence in the supplier.

Do you offer also discount to club members, which we can add to our
members discount section to aid interest to your company and increase
our membership.

Many thanks, Thomas

------------------------------------------------

The official book time for fitting is 7.9 hours (our fitting centre would
charge £250 for fitting).

The website is dated and is currently in the process of being totally
revamped. The new website will be the largest specialist clutch website in
the world covering all of our 3000 plus range of clutch kits.

We can offer discount to your members on the new website prices, when
released.

Kind regards,
John.

that sounds pretty sound! plus 250 for fitting isnt unreasonable depending on how much the unit costs, maybe see how many people are interested and find out about a group buy discount as they are usually better than a club discount?

Thats with disscount.

They actually made an error in the price they sent me but said they would honnor it.

Your looking at £400 all in... which is the same price as a standard clutch fitted at PowerFiat.

Although I trust PowerFiat completely and would sooner go there anyhow!!
