Just a quick note i have been makeing my own biodiesel from waste cooking oil for 3 years and have beem running my 2002 vw passat on 100% with no prob if any thing it goes better.
Back the end of last year i picked up a nice 02 stilo jtd 3 door for my sister and have been running it on 90% even in the cold wether with no problens what so ever. I liked the car so much i sold the mrs 307 hdi (wich did not run very well on bio diesel) and bought a 03 stilo jtd 5 door and have beed running it on 100% and it really goes well on it i have had it just over a month and have done nearly 2000 mile with no problems (well apart from the usual fiat electrical glitches) witch i have sorted out.

So any one thinking about useing bio diesel yes the 1.9 jtd runs fine on it

just beware of backstreet people selling biodiesel as it is not always the best quality an can do a lot of damage. So make it your self or buy it from a reputable place (morrisons are even selling b30 30% biodiesel

It costs me 15p per l to make and if you make under 3000 l per year you dont have to pay any duty and it also burns alot cleaner than diesel

You can buy a good set up for about 800 but i made mine for about 100 then all you need is a few contacts for the waste oil then your well away

sounds like a intresting little task to do. although i doubt i would ever get round to doing it, but intresting to know how its done

GO TO www.biodieselfillingstations.co.uk/index.htm IT LISTS MOST OF THE PLACES YOU CAN JUST BUY IT ON THE PUMP IN THE UK BUT THE CHEAPEST IS TO MAKE IT YOUR SELF

ALSO BIODIESEL IS A GOOD CLEANING AGENT SO AFTER THE FIRST 2 -3 TANKS YOU SHOULD CHANGE YOUR FUEL FILTER AS IT CLEANS OUT ANY S**T IN THE TANK ECT AFTER THIS YOU WILL PROB NOT NEED TO CHANGE THE FUEL FILTER FOR A LONG LONG TIME AS IT IS SO CLEAN

I'm new to the Fiat JTD & mine will be running on 100% Bio.

I use Potassium Hydroxide (KOH) as my catalyst, I make 120 litre batches & still only use the 20 litres of methanol (60 litres is £28), usually @ 1 Kg of KOH (25 Kg is £45) - a 120 litre batch takes me a week, but I'm not in a rush so I make pure fuel.

I buy my oil in 240 litre batches, dried & filtered for £85, so once I converted it into Biofuel it equates to 45p/litre including my additive to improve the cetane rating.

The 120 litres of WVO will usually yield no less than 110 litres of Bio........I just need a supplyer for my oil for free or 10p/litre.

My Bio is made in a home built 205 litre blue plastic drum with a viewing window.

Wow! (y)

Ta for all the info. Have you any pic's of your system set-up

Jon.

soz for the late reply, but I will take some tomorrow, just drying a batch of 120 litres....

I reacted the WVO on Sunday afternoon (started at 11:00, but cleaned the reactor, pump & al my glassware too), couldn't do owt on Monday, so I drained the glyc & demethed the batch on Tues afternoon + did a quick wash on the fuel too, gave in another wash on Weds morning (today) then started to dry it & left it drying overnight so I should have the yield of 110 litres tomorrow morning - 3 days in all if I'd have pulled my finger out n that'll do me & the wife for 3 weeks (y)
