Our 105JTD has an oil leak. Looks most bad on the tranmission end crankshaft oil seal. But also on the seal at the other end and also blowing oil at the back of the engine where the breather hose comes out. It definetly hasn't been over filled and we pulled off the weird breather box contraption and that doesn't seem to be blocked.

Can anybody suggest any causes to this?

Could someone also confirm what the red flashing oil light means on my early Multi?

I was conviced it came on because the oil was low (like other cars I've had). In a hurry I just topped it up with oil. I don't have a handbook with me at the mo. If the red light doesn't mean that, I may have actually overfilled it. (Although I'd expect lots of white smoke!!)

My model is too early to have a DPF, right? So the flashing red light means something different to the later models?

The oil light can be an indication that you're 'low on oil', but what it actually means is 'low oil pressure'.

This could be due to old oil, blocked oilways, clogged or collapsed oil filter or more likely, a failing oil pump.

The flashing oil light is meant to indicate that the oil is knackered, Somebody may be able to shed more light on how it comes to this conclusion. Low oil pressure would be a constant oil light. (constant while the pressure was low)

Thanks guys. I thought the knacked oil was only for diesels fitted with DPF's you see. Need to check handbook but my car is at a mates.

Yeah the flashing light is only a warning for later models with a dpf. What message do you get when the light is on.?

I think I've sussed it.
Put in a new clutch & DMF you see. I drove it around gingerly for a week (MY first clutch attempt) and coming home on a fast roundabout there was a flicker of the oil light. I was presuming it would be a bit low so without properly checking (I live on a steep hill!) I just popped half litre in. This must have blown the crankshaft seal. Which I then noticed and figured we hadn't done the seal properly. Same roundabout, few days later, red light flickers. I figured oil level had dropped again because of the leak. Popped another half litre in. .
Looks like that oil sensor is just a bit intermittent on fast right handers, and I'm an idiot.......
