well my lovely has done 55k and is 5years old...

so it doesn't NEED a cam belt change untill next year or 72k but for peace of mind im getting it done now..

Well spent the day ringing up all the Fiat dealers near to my home and uni and here's the list inc. VAT!

1) £160 belt change, £70 tensioner = £230

2) £279.95 belt and tensioner

3) £203.67 belt and tensioner

4) £185.00 belt and tensioner

The funny bit is.. the last 2 are the same dealer!!! just spoke to a different person!!!

where abouts were those last 2?, i want to get mine done too

lozz

JTD Cambelt

just been quoted £112 for just the cambelt, but obviously i will be getting the tensioner done as well, at the local Coop garage, so should closer to £200 all in. Will have a full service at same time

Re: JTD Cambelt

My jtd is going in for its 72K service tomorrow. It just passed 71k at the weekend so it would appear that the service interval is reasonably conservative.

Let you know how much its all going to cost.

Re: JTD Cambelt

For the cambelt change, go to www.shop4parts.co.uk, buy the parts yourself (belt, tensioner, aux. belt) then get your local to fit. For my HLX 1.8, parts cost 100, fitting 80

Re: JTD Cambelt

The ONLY reason why im going to fiat is so I get the 6year/72k warrenty!

Nige could do it cheaper, but he can't offer this warrenty, so for the added peace of mind, i don't mind spending just a little more.

I will service the car myself tho... It may prove harder to sell... but in 6yrs time it shouldn't matter.. if i keep her that long :p

Re: JTD Cambelt

What??? Fiat are giving 6 years and 72K?? Honestly?? Since when?? That's amazing?

Re: JTD Cambelt

somehow I don't think any warranty is implied or given by Fiat for the 72k service. It is merely to keep the service record complete for any subsequent owner of the car. The only rights you would get are your statutory rights, eg resonable skill, satisfactory quailty, etc.

Fiat Stoneacre in P'boro quoted me £470 for a 72k service as it includes a cam belt change, which I said had already been done and they knocked it down to £345 inc Vat. Way too much. Its better to do it yourself if you have the expertise and the time, but potential buyers do like to see dealer stamps in the service record even if a dealer has done a crap job......

Re: JTD Cambelt

the 2nd Quote down is Stonache at p'borough!! must have like the sound of me better than you! they only wanted to charge me £280!

Re: JTD Cambelt

Be a bit careful. I rang around getting quotes from Fiat for my TD cambelt and when they presented the bill it was significantly more expensive. When I queried it they swore blind that they couldn't possibly have quoted cheaper. I think they quoted without tensioner and without VAT, but were too stupid to notice. Anyway, my point is that to be safe you need to get a written quote when you hand the car over, as its difficuly to prove a phone quote!
For info the best quote I got was £170 but this turned into £250 in real money ie about the same as the other quotes I got.

Re: JTD Cambelt

well i rang up this morning to confirm the warrenty... and yes it is the life of the belt.. so if it doesnt' need changing for 6yr or 72k and it snaps b4 that time.. they will repair the damage caused.

Only 1 slight problem... they'd never heard of me.. and it wasn't booked in!

But they confirmed the price at £185 all in.... and some1 has just this second taken my beloved away.

Had to giggle to myself... this really old bloke is driving her back... i just hope he doesn't boot it... he'll have a heart attack!
