Can anyone advise on how to adjust the auxilliary drive belt on a JTD 115?
It screeches first thing in the morning.
Thanks in advance.

Tha auxilliary belt has a self adjusting tensioner.

Screeching for just a minute or two after first starting could also mean the battery is about to give up.

The starter motor takes a lot of current from the battery when cold, (especially on a diesel engine). The alternator senses the low battery and has to work 'overtime' to recharge it. This increases the magnetic field within the alternator to such an extent that it acts like a brake on the pulley.

Don't leave it too long or the increased load could damage your alternator and belt. You could test the theory by connecting a jump battery with a good set of leads the next time you start the car from cold. See if it screeches or not then.

Dave.
