I'm a 'Service Tech' basically i service rented oilfield equipment, it's an onshore based position with occasional offshore but if you fancy offshore rotation (2 on 2 off etc) then try the likes of PetroFac (provide staff for most rigs in the North Sea) or the likes of Schlumberger, Halliburton, PSL, Q-Serv. It all depends what you fancy doing.....and where!

There are plenty companies in BOD but just make up a CV and check out the websites of some companies, most will have job listings or an e-mail address to fire your CV in to! I Got my job thro an agency, started as a temp then went permanent, it's a good industry to work in esp. if you don't mind going away! some pretty dodgy places to go tho!

you thinking of anything inparticular?

Not too fussy mate, going to apply for trainee driller, and drauhtsman jobs and see what happens

I'm at RGU doing Business Computing at the moment. I don't want to do honours but it looks like I'm going to have to to get anywhere.

Every company I have written to will employ me without honours. Problem is that it ain't on a graduate scheme and it's only for 10-15k. They all say that if I had decent honours to add to my CV I'd almost certainly get onto their graduate scheme and would be looking at 20-32k.

Here's the dilemma...

I've been working in sales part-time for 3 years. If I go full-time I'd be making about 25k but that wouldn't be likely to increase and promotion is unlikely - once a salesman always a salesman.

If I stay on and do honours I'm gonna have to work really hard - there's no point in getting crap honours, you're better off chancing it with just a BSc.

Should I or should I not do honours?

If anyone has any contacts that might be worth trying let me know.

I gradated from Ab Uni in 2002 (with honours) and from my point of view my honours year was my favourite year, pretty much left to do a couple of long term projects with a few short (but pretty intense) courses dotted in between. It wasn't an easy year but it was rewarding!

Before these companies are considering you then you must be doing ok at uni so far? this should give you a rough idea what honours grade you are heading for? just a thought!
